The Tri-Valley Mustang softball team went 1-1 in the Dak-12 Tournament in Sioux Falls on Monday, April 28th. The Mustangs defeated Lennox, but fell to Dell Rapids keeping them out of bracket play.
Tri-Valley 14, Lennox 4
The Mustangs scored early and often to propel them to a 14-4 win over Lennox. Tri-Valley scored three times in the bottom of the first, four in the bottom of the second, and one more in the bottom of the third for an 8-0 lead. Lennox cut the lead in half, 8-4, with four runs in the top of the fourth. The Mustangs, however, scored the next six runs. They plated five in the bottom of the fourth and then ended the game on the 10-run rule with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
Syenna Halverson had three singles. Kadence Davey had two hits, a home run and double, with two RBIs. Emery Pearson had a triple and single with two RBIs. Emry Jones added a single and double with an RBI. Ava Christensen had two doubles with an RBI. Mattie Huwe and Reagan Pearson both had a double with an RBI. Izzy Davey had a singe with an RBI, and Keagan Kuchta had a single.
I. Davey pitched 3 1/3 innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on four hits with seven strikeouts. K. Davey pitched 1 2/3 innings striking out three batters.
Dell Rapids 5, Tri-Valley 2
Dell Rapids scored five straight runs late in the game to get the win over the Mustangs. After two scoreless innings, the Mustangs took the lead, 1-0, with a run in the bottom of third. Dell Rapids grabbed the lead in the top of the fourth with two runs. They added three more in the top of the fifth for a 5-1 lead. Tri-Valley got just one run back in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.
Halverson had two hits, one a double. Pearson also had a double. K. Davey and Hailey Sorenson each had a single. Jones pitched all five innings and allowed five runs, four earned, on four hits and five walks with 10 strikeouts.
