The Tri-Valley Mustangs had to endure a three-hour weather delay, but they came home from Belle Fourche with a 30-14 win over the Broncs on Friday, September 12th.
The game started on time, but with 7:44 to play in the opening quarter, the weather caused havoc in Belle Fourche. The two teams were forced to wait out the storms which ended up being a three-hour delay. When play finally resumed, the Broncs continued the drive they had started. Belle Fourche finished that drive with a five-yard touchdown run and a two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.
Tri-Valley tied the game late in the second quarter. Brody Dybvig scored his first of four touchdowns on the night on a 12-yard run with 4:55 to go in the half. He also made the two-point conversion to tie the score 8-8. The score remained tied 8-8 at halftime.
Dybvig would find the end zone two more times in the third quarter. With 9:12 on the clock, he added a three-yard touchdown run. Ty Oyen threw a pass to Owen Effling to score the two-point conversion to put the Mustangs ahead 16-8. Dybvig had a two-yard score with 1:52 remaining. The conversion failed, but Tri-Valley extended their lead to 22-8 going into the fourth quarter.
Belle Fourche pulled within eight points, 22-14, midway through the fourth quarter. They had a one-yard touchdown run. Tri-Valley, however, made sure the Broncs could not rally. On a fourth down play, Brady Jewett completed a pass to Dybvig who then took it 47 yards for a touchdown. Dybvig scored another two-point conversion to pad the Mustang lead, 30-14, with 4:50 remaining in the game.
Tri-Valley is now 3-0 on the season. They return home to face the Dakota Valley Panthers for homecoming on Friday, September 19th. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m.
