Mustang Boys Ride First Half to Victory

The Tri-Valley Mustangs (5-12 locked down the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars in the first half and rode that to a 52-41 win on Tuesday, February 14th.

The Mustangs held the Fighting Cougars to single digit scoring in the first two quarters.  Tri-Valley built a 13-4 lead by the end of the first quarter and then grew that lead to 28-11 at halftime.  McCook Central/Montrose cut into the lead in the third quarter, but Tri-Valley continued to lead 36-25 going into the fourth quarter.  Both teams scored 16 points in the final quarter.

Tri-Valley finished the game shooting 39% (17-44) from the field, 20% (4-20) on three-point attempts, and 70% (14-20) from the free-throw line.  The Fighting Cougars shot 28% (14-50) overall, 13% (3-24) from three-point area, and 77% (10-13) from the free-throw line.

Noah Haynes finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds.  Trey Johnson added 12 points and six rebounds.  Tristen Bunde had seven points and three rebounds.  Alex Wingen had five points and three rebounds.  Carter Sorenson ended with four points.
