After getting a win over the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies at the Dak-12 Conference Tournament on Saturday, October 18th, the Tri-Valley Mustangs dropped a four-set match to them at home on Tuesday, October 21st. The Huskies took the win 12-25, 25-21, 25-19, and 25-16.
Tri-Valley took an early 3-2 lead in the first set and continued to grow the lead all set long. They extended the advantage to 7-4, 12-5, 15-7, and then to 18-11. At that point the Mustangs went on a 6-0 run for a 24-11 score before taking the win 25-12.
The second set started with a 4-4 tie. Tri-Valley then went in front 8-6 and continued to lead at 11-8 and 14-12. The Huskies then went on a 3-0 to go in front 15-14. Elk Point-Jefferson stayed in front by a point, 18-17, and then pulled away 22-19. They ended the set with a 25-21 win.
The Mustangs jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead to start the third set. Elk Point-Jefferson responded with a 5-2 run of their own to tie the score 7-7. The two teams traded points to a 10-10 score. The Mustangs went back in front 13-11 and continued to lead 16-14. The Huskies tied the score 18-18 and then went in front 22-19 with a 4-1 run. They finished the set with three straight points for a 25-19 win.
That momentum late in the third set carried into the fourth set. The Huskies started with a 3-0 run. They slowly pushed the lead to 11-6. Tri-Valley got within four points, 17-13 and 19-15, but Elk Point-Jefferson finished the set and match on a 6-1 run for a 25-16 victory.
