Tri-Valley Boys Beat McCook Central/Montrose in Overtime

The Tri-Valley Mustang boys basketball team hosted the McCook Central/Montrose Cougars on Tuesday, February 17th and earned a 48-46 overtime win to improve to 8-8 on the season.

The Mustangs took an early 7-3 lead in the opening quarter.  They would maintain that four-point advantage, 14-10, after the first quarter.  The lead grew to 20-12 with 2:45 to play in second quarter.  The Cougars went on an 8-0 and tied the game 20-20 with just under a minute to play in the half.  Tri-Valley scored the final three points of the half for a 23-20 lead.

The Mustangs were able to hold a four-point lead through much of the third quarter.  They led 29-25 and then again 32-28 with 2:30 to play in the quarter.  The score was 35-30 in favor of Tri-Valley going into the fourth quarter.  The Cougars tied the game again 37-37 with 4:30 to go.  Regulation would come to an end with the score tied 41-41.  The Mustangs scored the only points of the first three minutes of overtime to go in front 45-41.  The Cougars would make a three-point shot with :05 left to make the score 47-46 Tri-Valley.  After the Mustangs made one of two free-throw attempts, the last second shot by the Cougars sailed over the backboard giving the Mustangs the win.

Tri-Valley shot 41% (20-49) overall in the game, 3-14 on three-point attempts, and 5-10 from the free-throw line.  McCook Central/Montrose finished the game shooting 37% (19-52) overall, 44% (7-16) on three-point shots, and 1-3 from the free-throw line.

Brady Jewett had 27 points, four rebounds, and two steals.  Tristen Bunde ended with seven points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists.  Ty Oyen added six points, eight rebounds, and six assists.  Lawson Schneiderman had five points and four steals.
