Vermillion Girls Hold off Tri-Valley in Second Half

The Vermillion Tranagers built a 15-point lead in the first half and held off a third quarter rally by the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Friday, February 13th.  Tri-Valley fell by a score of 45-33.

Vermillion built a double-digit lead in the first quarter and led 14-4 at the first quarter break.  They extended their lead to 15 points, 22-7, in the second quarter.  The Tanagers led 22-10 at halftime.  The Mustangs chipped away at the lead in the third quarter and pulled within three points, 25-22.  Vermillion ended the third quarter on a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 31-22.  That run held off the Mustangs rally as the Tanagers outscored Tri-Valley 14-11 in the final quarter.

Tri-Valley shot 17% (11-66) overall in the game, 12% (4-33) on three-point attempts, and 7-8 from the free-throw line.  Vermillion shot 39% (15-39) overall, 38% (8-21) from three-point area, and 7-11 form the free-throw line.

Hailey Sorenson had 13 points and five rebounds.  Mattie Huwe added seven points and two rebounds.  Rowyn Gacke also had seven points with six rebounds and four assists.  Kadence Davey ended with six points and 14 rebounds.
