Tri-Valley Girls Win Two on Back-to-Back Nights

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls basketball team earned two wins on back-to-back nights Thursday, January 8th and Friday, January 9th.

The Mustangs hosted the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans on Thursday evening.  A 16-0 run to start the game for the Mustangs put them in control for the rest of the game.  Tri-Valley took the win 49-31.

After the big start to the game, Tri-Valley led 19-7 at the end of the first quarter.  The Titans cut the lead down to 10 points, 24-14, by halftime.  The Mustangs continued to lead by 10 late in the third quarter.  They would make a three-point shot right before the quarter break to lead 33-20 going into the fourth.  Tri-Valley outscored Mt Vernon/Plankinton 16-11 in the final quarter for the win.

Hailey Sorenson had 17 points and two rebounds.  Mattie Huwe added nine points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Peyton Vogt finished with five points and five rebounds.  Kadence Davey also had five points with four rebounds and three steals.

Tri-Valley then hosted the Flandreau Fliers on Friday.  The Mustang defense played a key role in a 43-23 win over the Fliers.  The first quarter was played close.  Tri-Valley held a 13-10 at the end of the opening quarter.  Their defense would hold Flandreau to just two points in the second quarter as they extended their lead to 19-12 by halftime.  The offense found their groove in the third quarter while the defense continued to play strong.  The Mustangs outscored the Fliers 15-3 in the third quarter for a 34-15 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Huwe finished with 15 points, two rebounds, two assists, and six steals.  Rowyn Gacke added nine points and three steals.  Sorenson had six points and three steals.  Elisabeth Miller ended with five points.
