The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team won a tough match against the Vermillion Tanagers at home on Thursday, September 11th. The Mustangs won in straight sets, but by scores of 25-21, 25-23, and 25-22.
The opening set started with a 2-2 tie. Vermillion would hold a one-point lead at scores of 5-4 and 8-7. The Mustangs went on a 4-1 run to go ahead 11-9, but the Tanagers responded with a 6-0 run for a 15-11 advantage. Tri-Valley then went on another run, this time 7-1, to regain the lead 18-16. That run kept them in front the rest of the set as they won 25-21.
Another tie, 3-3, started the second set. Tri-Valley went ahead 8-6 and then 11-8. Vermillion scored the next three points to tie the score again 11-11. The Tanagers continued their momentum to a 17-14 lead. Tri-Valley slowly chipped away and eventually took a 20-19 lead. They would hold off the Tanagers the rest of the second set to a 25-23 win.
The Mustangs started the third set with a slim 5-4 lead. After an 8-8 tie, Vermillion went on a 6-0 run for a 14-8 lead. Tri-Valley spent most of the third set fighting their way back from the deficit. They pulled within a point at 16-15. The Mustangs were able to go in front 21-20 late in the set. Vermillion tied the score 22-22, but the Mustangs scored the final three points for a 25-22 win.
