The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team lost a tough battle to the Lennox Orioles on Thursday, September 4th. The Orioles won in straight sets, but the scores were close at 28-26, 25-21, and 25-21.
Lennox opened the match with a 4-2 lead in the first set. Tri-Valley tied the score 4-4. The Orioles, however, responded with a 5-0 run to take a 9-4 lead. They continued to lead 13-8 before the Mustangs chipped away and eventually tied the score 18-18. Lennox went back in front 22-19, but once again Tri-Valley battled to even the score 23-23. The score was tied again at 24-24, 25-25, and 26-26. Lennox would score the final two points of the set to win 28-26.
The Orioles got out to a fast 4-0 start in the second set. Tri-Valley made sure to not let them get too far ahead, and in fact, scored the next four points to tie the set 4-4. After an 8-8 tie, the Mustangs took a slim 14-12 lead. They continued to lead by two, 17-15, but Lennox went on a 6-1 run to go back in front 21-18. That run helped them to a 25-21 win.
Tri-Valley started the third set on a 4-0 run. They stayed in front until Lennox tied the score 9-9. The score was tied 11-11, and then the Mustangs went on a 6-2 run for a 17-13 lead. Lennox responded with four straight to tie the score 17-17. They were able to keep the momentum as the Orioles went ahead 19-18. They held a 21-20 lead before ended the match on a 4-1 run for a 25-21 win.
