The Tri-Valley Maroon 14U baseball team lost and won a close game. They defeated Madison Gold on Friday, June 20th, but fell to Garretson on Tuesday, June 24th.
Tri-Valley Maroon 7, Madison Gold 5
Tri-Valley scored six of their seven runs early in the game and held off Madison for the win. They scored three times in the bottom of the second. Madison got a run in the top of the third, but Tri-Valley added three more in the bottom of the inning for a 6-1 lead. Tri-Valley scored one more in the bottom of the fifth. Madison rallied for two in the top of the sixth and two in the seventh, but their rally fell short.
Bentley McMillen had two doubles with two RBIs. Nolan Campbell had two singles with an RBI. Porter Amundson also had two hits. Legend Frederick added a single with an RBI. Gerrit Koopman had a single, and Connor Bannwarth had an RBI. Amundson pitched three innings and allowed an earned run on three hits with five strikeouts. Koopman also pitched three innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Elliot Powell also threw an inning and allowed two earned runs on a hit and walk with one strikeout.
Garretson 6, Tri-Valley Maroon 5
Garretson got a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn a one-run victory over Tri-Valley. Tri-Valley took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second with three runs. Garretson responded with two in the bottom of the inning. Garretson would get two more runs in the bottom of the third to go ahead 4-3. The score remained 4-3 until the bottom of the sixth. Garretson picked up one more run to extend the lead to 5-3. Tri-Valley rallied for two runs in the top of the seventh with two outs to tie the game 5-5. The game went into extra innings, and Garretson scored the winning run in the eighth on a one-out single.
Paxton Felsheim had three hits and two RBIs. McMillen had two hits, including a double. Amundson added a single with two RBIs. Koopman and Reed Smith both had one hit each. Trey Sorenson had an RBI. Smith pitched four innings and allowed four runs, but just one earned, on two hits and three walks with four RBIs. Amundson threw 3 1/3 innings and allowed an earned run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
