The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls fell to the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans 52-40 on Tuesday, February 10th in Dell Rapids. The Titans held a slim three point lead at the end of the first quarter 11-8. Dell Rapids pulled within one point at 21-20 by halftime. Mt Vernon/Plankinton’s eighteen points in the third quarter proved to be too much for Dell Rapids to overcome. The Titans extended their lead to 39-30 by the end of the third quarter, and then held the Quarriers to just 10 points in the fourth quarter.
Dell Rapids shot 31% (13-42) from the field, 25% (4-16) from three-point area, and 83% (10-12) from the free-throw line. The Quarriers had 20 team rebound and 15 turnovers. Mt Vernon/Plankinton shot 61% (25-41) from the field, 17% (1-6) from three-point area, and 14% (1-7) from the free-throw line. The Titans had 25 team rebounds and 14 turnovers.
Mikaela Stofferahn had 14 points and six rebounds to lead the Quarriers. Sami Reider tossed in eight points, and Emma Paul added six points. Megan Bultsma had 21 points, and Makaela Karst had 19 points for the Titans.
Dell Rapids falls to 9-8 on the year. The Quarriers will host Dakota Valley on Friday, February 13th. The game will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.
