The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys basketball team lost to the Centerville Tornadoes on Tuesday, December 16th, in Centerville 74-53.  The Cardinals lead after the first quarter by a score of 23-16.  The Tornadoes outscored St Mary 24-11 in the second quarter to take a 40-34 halftime lead.  However, it was the third quarter that rallied the Tornadoes to the win.  Centerville outscores St Mary 24-4 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 64-38.  The Cardinals did outscore the Tornadoes 15-10 in the final quarter.

Mitch Brown led the Cardinals with 17 points in the game.  Ryan Welbig added nine points.  Zach Geraets finished with eight points, and Matt Farmer had five points.

Head coach Pete Schmidt said, “Ryan came off the bench to score nine points and played great defense on their leading scorer.  Mitch shot the ball well connecting on four three’s.”

St Mary falls to 0-2 on the year.  The Cardinals will host DeSmet on Friday, December 19th.  The game will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.
