Parkston Ends Dell Rapids Baseball’s Winning Streak

An early five-game winning streak for the Dell Rapids High School club baseball team was snapped on Wednesday, April 27th.  Parkston scored seven of their eight runs in two innings and held Dell Rapids to just four runs in an 8-4 win at Rickeman Field.

Dell Rapids grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after an RBI single by Dylan Mathis that scored courtesy runner Cole Ruesink.  The score remained 1-0 until the top of the third.  Parkston tied the game 1-1 after a run scored on a Dell Rapids error.

Aiden Boechler gave the lead back to Dell Rapids, 2-1, after a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the third inning.  Parkston’s first big inning was in the top of the fourth.  They scored three times in the inning on two hits, a walk, and an error.  Brayden Pankonen scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 4-3 in favor of Parkston.  The next big inning for Parkston came in the top of the fifth inning.  They scored four times, all with two outs, on four hits, a walk, and an error.  Boechler added another solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the final run of the game.

Boechler finished with three hits, two of them home runs, and two RBIs.  Mathis had a single and an RBI.  Landon Ruesink and Sutton Williams both had singles.  Ruesink took the loss pitching 4 2/3 innings allowing five runs, two earned, on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.  Pankonen pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing three runs, none of them earned, on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

Quarrier Girls Golf 7th at Dakota Valley Invite

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls finished seventh out of 12 teams at the Dakota Valley Invite held at Two Rivers Golf Club on Tuesday, April 26th.  Sioux Falls Christian placed first, followed by Vermillion and then Canton.

Abby Greenhoff placed 11th individually with a round of 96.  Jayme Schmidt was 16th after a round of 97.  Natalie Berg had a round of 111.  Emma Taubert finished with a round of 115.

The Quarriers will host the Dell Rapids Invite on Tuesday, May 3rd.

Dell Rapids Baseball Overcomes First Inning Deficit, Beats Brandon Valley

The winning streak continued for Dell Rapids baseball on Monday, April 25th, although they had to come-from-behind to win.  Brandon Valley scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, but was held to just one run the rest of the game as Dell Rapids took the win 12-8.

Dell Rapids took advantage of two Brandon Valley errors in the top of the first inning.  Treyse Eastman and Dylan Mathis both scored on errors to give Dell Rapids a 2-0 lead.  Brandon Valley regrouped offensively and scored seven times in the bottom of the inning for a 7-2 lead.

Dell Rapids, however, chipped away at the lead throughout the game.  Jack Henry had a two-run single scoring Eastman and Braden Fersdahl in the top of the second.  Aiden Boechler added an RBI single in the top of the fourth to cut the lead to 7-5.

The big inning came in the top of the fifth inning.  Josh Deknikker started the inning with a double.  Sutton Williams drove him home with a triple.  Landon Ruesink followed with an RBI double to tie the game 7-7.  Mathis had the biggest blow in the inning, a three-run home run to put Dell Rapids ahead 10-7.

Henry added an inside-the-park home run scoring Ruesink in the top of the seventh to give Dell Rapids a five-run lead, 12-7.  Brandon Valley tried to make some noise in the bottom of the seventh, but they were only able to score one run before Dell Rapids shut down the rally.

Mathis had three hits, one a home run, and three RBIs.  Ruesink had four hits, two of them doubles, and an RBI.  Henry had two hits, one a home run, and four RBIs.  Boechler had two hits and an RBI.  Williams finished with a triple and an RBI.  Deknikker had a double.  Eastman, CJ Smith, and Fersdahl all had a single.

Eastman started the game on the mound lasting 1/3 of an inning giving up seven runs, five earned, on three hits and four walks with one strikeout.  Brayden Pankonen pitched 2 2/3 innings giving up no runs on four hits with two strikeouts.  Tad Tjaden got the win pitching four innings allowing an unearned run on four hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Dell Rapids Baseball Wins Rematch Against West Central

Dell Rapids and West Central high school baseball teams last met in the 2021 championship game with Dell Rapids winning 9-2.  The two teams met for the first time in the 2022 season in Humboldt on Sunday, April 24th.  Dell Rapids won the rematch 9-5.

Dell Rapids scored the first five runs on the game.  Treyse Eastman scored on a passed ball in the top of the first inning for an early 1-0 lead.  Eastman then hit an RBI single, CJ Smith scored on an error, and Landon Ruesink hit an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the second to increase the lead to 4-0.  Aiden Boechler crossed home on a wild pitch in the top of the third, and Ruesink had an RBI single in the top of the fourth to give Dell Rapids a 6-0 lead.

West Central then made a run of their own. Zach Madsen had an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth inning.  The score remained 6-1 until the bottom of the sixth.  Madsen hit a two-run home run to cut the lead to 6-3.  Gage Nelson scored on a passed ball later in the inning, and Jack Linneman had an RBI single to make the score 6-5 heading into the seventh.

Dell Rapids got three big runs in their half of the seventh.  Boechler hit a ground ball that scored Ruesink and Henry on an error.  Boechler later scored on a wild pitch to give Dell Rapids a 9-5 lead.   West Central was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh to end the game.

Madsen had three hits, including a home run and double, with three RBI to lead West Central.  Grafton Stroup had two hits.  Linneman had a single and RBI.  Andrew Zimmer and Logan Maras both had hits as well.  Braden Herr pitched four innings allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.  Owen Heath pitched 2 2/3 innings allowing three runs, all unearned, on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts.  Brodie Herr pitched 1/3 of an inning recording a strikeout.

Ruesink had two hits and two RBIs for Dell Rapids.  Eastman also had two hits and an RBI.  Boechler had a triple with two RBIs.  Henry, Dylan Mathis, and Will Jaton all had singles as well.  Henry took the win on the mound pitching 5 2/3 innings allowing five runs, all earned, on seven hits with three walks and 14 strikeouts.  Ruesink pitched the final 1 1/3 innings giving up just one hit while striking out two.

Dell Rapids improves to 5-1 on the season, while West Central falls to 2-2.

Dell Rapids Baseball Wins Third Straight

Dell Rapids club baseball won their third straight game on Friday, April 22nd, a 14-2 win over Chester/Colman-Egan/Flandreau.  Not only was this the third win in a row, but also the third straight game Dell Rapids scored 14 or more runs.

Dell Rapids used two big innings to build their lead.  They scored five times in the top of the first inning.  After Chester/Colman-Egan/Flandreau scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, Dell Rapids added eight more runs in the top of the second for a 13-2 lead.  Dell Rapids got another run in the top of the fifth, and the game ended 14-2 on the 10-run rule after five innings.

Jack Henry belted two home runs in the game and had four RBIs.  Dylan Mathis had two hits, one of them a home run, and had an RBI.  Will Jaton also collected two hits, a triple and a double, and drove home four runs.  Treyse Eastman had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Landon Ruesink had a double and an RBI.  Mason Stubbe and Tyler Tjaden both had singles.

Eastman pitched two innings allowing two earned runs on a hit with four walks and three strikeouts.  Joe Rechtenbaugh pitched three innings allowing just one hit and two walks with four strikeouts.

Quarrier Girls Golf Eighth at EPJ Invite

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team had their first 18-hole tournament of the season on Thursday, April 21st.  Dell Rapids finished eighth at the Huskies Invitational with a team score of 432.

Abby Greenhoff finished ninth individually with a round of 95.  Jayme Schmidt had a round of 101.  Haley Rydell finished with a 116.  Avery Haskell had a 120.  Emma Taubert finished at 121, and Natalie Berg had a 133.

Dell Rapids will be at the Dakota Valley Invite on Tuesday, April 26th.

Quarrier Track Back in Action at Lennox

The Dell Rapids Quarrier track team was able to get back into action on Thursday, April 21st after a 12 day break in meets.  Dell Rapids was able to add the Ruch Luther Invite in Lennox to their schedule after having two meets cancelled due to weather.

Rileigh Foster was fourth in the discus event.  Clara Justice placed fourth in the 100m hurdles and seventh in the 300m hurdles.  The 4x400m relay team of Justice, Elizabeth Price, Kennedy Krull, and Kylee Fiddelke also had a fourth place finish.  The 4x200m relay team of Madysen VanOverbeke, Krull, Jenna Miller, and Fiddelke placed fifth.  The girls 4x800m relay team of Adisen Stadem, Price, Reagan VanZee, and Peyton VanZee had a seventh place finish.  The 4x100m relay team of Hanna VanOverbeke, Sophia Godwin, M. VanOverbeke, and Fiddelke also placed seventh.  Elly Olson had an eighth place finish in the 300m hurdles, and Mackenzie Garry was eighth in the shot put.

Braden Fersdahl had a third place finish in the triple jump and an eighth place finish in the long jump.  The 4x100m relay team of Ian Mason, Owen Nelson, Fersdahl, and Chase Jones placed third.  Gunnar Chamley was fifth in the discus and eighth in the shot put.  The 4x400m relay team of Nelson, Jones, John Mortrude, and Camden Justice also placed fifth.  Mortrude also placed sixth in the 800m run, and Jade Anstine had a seventh place finish in the 100m dash.

Dell Rapids will be at the Flandreau Invitational on Saturday, April 23rd.

Quarrier Girls Golf Competes in Garretson Early Bird

The Dell Rapids Quarrrier girls golf team traveled to Garretson and played in the Garretson Early Bird Tournament on Tuesday, April 12th.

Jayme Schmidt and Abby Greenhoff both finished with a nine-hole round of 52.  Schmidt finished fifth individually, and Greenhoff finished sixth.  Avery Haskell had a round of 61.  Both Emma Taubert and Haley Rydell had a round of 66.  Natalie Berg finished with a 67, and Brynlee Kriens had a round of 73.

Dell Rapids is scheduled to play in the Huskies Invitational at The Pointe Golf and Event Center on Thursday, April 21st.

Quarrier Track Attends Meet in Garretson

After the originally scheduled track meet for the Dell Rapids Quarrier team was cancelled, Dell Rapids was able to find a replacement meet in Garretson on Saturday, April 9th.

Kylee Fiddelke placed fourth in 400m Dash.  Clara Justice had a sixth place finish in the 300m hurdles.  The 4x100m relay team of Madysen VanOverbeke, Merritt Kvigne, Hanna VanOverbeke, and Fiddelke placed third.  The 4x400m relay team of Kvigne, Riley Hill, Sophia Godwin, and Jenna Miller had a seventh place finish.  The 4x800m relay team of Adisen Stadem, Elizabeth Price, Peyton VanZee, and Madyn Lacey finished eighth.  Fiddelke also placed third in the high jump, while Rileigh Foster had a sixth place finish in the discus.

For the boys team, Jade Anstine had a second place finish in the 100m dash.  Josh Fletcher placed third in the 800m run.  Will Ronshaugen had an eighth place finish in the 300m hurdles. The 4x100m relay team of Ian Mason, Owen Nelson, Chase Jones, and Anstine placed second. The 4x400m relay team (O. Nelson, Evan Nelson, Grady Lamer, Camden Justice) placed fifth. The 4x800m relay team of John Mortrude, Fletcher, Weston Mason, and Atticus Miles also had a second place finish.  The 1600m sprint medley relay team (Ronshaugen, Braden Gruis, Lamer, and W. Mason) placed seventh.  Chase Jones was fifth in the triple jump, and Gunnar Chamley placed fourth in the discus.

The Quarriers are scheduled to be in Canton for the Canton Relays on Tuesday, April 12th.

Quarrier Track Competes in Brookings

The Dell Rapids Quarrier track team competed in the Scott Underwood Invitational on Monday, April 4th at South Dakota State University in Brookings.

The girls team finished with 1.12 points with two top eight finishers.  Kylee Fiddelke finished eighth in the high jump, and the 4x400m relay team of Merritt Kvigne, Kennedy Krull, Jenna Miller, and Fiddelke finished eighth.

The boys team finished with 14 points.  Josh Fletcher had a second place finish in the 3200m run.  The 4x100m relay team of Ian Mason, Braden Fersdahl, Jade Anstine, and Even Nelson finished sixth.  Chase Jones placed seventh in the triple jump.  The 4x800m relay team of John Mortrude, Fletcher, Weston Mason, and Atticus Miles placed eighth.

Dell Rapids will be at the Vince Relays at Elkton on Saturday, April 9th.
