Cardinal Volleyball Falls Short at Deubrook

DRSM LogoAfter starting the match on fire, the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals were cooled by the Deubrook Area Dolphins on Thursday, October 12th at Deubrook High School.  The Cardinals opened the match with a big 25-9 first set win, but the Dolphins won the next three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-11, 25-16 to win the match.

Maddie Schwebach paced St Mary with nine kills.  Veronica Beck and Rhiannon Glaizer both had five kills.  Cassie Mullaney added four kills.  Schwebach also finished with three blocks.  Adyn Heinricy had 15 digs to lead the Cardinals.  Cassy Geraets had eight digs.  Carly Maxwell and Glazier both had five digs.  Geraets had 27 digs and three ace serves as well.

St Mary will play in the Dakota Valley Conference tournament on Saturday, October 14th, at Elkton High School.

Cardinal Volleyball Wins Thriller Over Estelline

DRSMvsEstelline_VB_10-5-17The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals won a thrilling five-set match against the Estelline Redmen on Thursday, October 5th, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  The Cardinals won by set scores of 24-26, 25-21, 13-25, 25-18, 16-14.

After the being tied 2-2 in the first set, Estelline went on a 9-0 run to take an 11-2 lead.  The Cardinals were able to tie the match again at 23-23 and 24-24, but Estelline was able to come away with the win.

The Cardinals bounced back in the second set and took at 14-9 lead.  Estelline fought back to pull within a point at 16-15, but St Mary pulled away to tie the match at 1-1.  The third set started close with Estelline taking a slight 8-6 lead.  The Redmen then went on to close out the set on a 17-7 run to take a 2-1 lead.

The fourth set was close throughout most of the set.  Each team held small leads with St Mary holding a one-point advantage at 15-14.  The Cardinals then closed out the fourth set on a 10-4 run to even the match at 2-2 to force the fifth set.

The final set was back and forth.  The two teams were tied at 4-4, 7-7, and 9-9.  Estelline then rallied for four straight points to take a 13-9 lead.  The Cardinals answered with a 5-0 run to take a 14-13 lead.  Estelline tied the set at 14-14, but St Mary finished the win on kills by Cassy Geraets and Cassie Mullaney.

Mullaney finished with 10 kills and two ace serves.  Ella Heinitz had eight kills, one dig, and two ace serves.  Geraets had one kill, one block, five digs, four ace serves, and 33 set assists.  Rhiannon Glazier had seven kills, and Maddie Schwebach had five kills and two blocks.  Adyn Heinricy had 16 digs and two ace serves.

The Cardinals (8-13) will travel to Hendricks, MN on Tuesday, October 10th.

Cardinals Fall to Freeman at Home

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals fell in straight sets to the Freeman Flyers on Monday, October 2nd, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  Freeman won by set scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-20.

Cassie Mullaney had six kills and five blocks.  Maddie Schwebach had four kills and two blocks.  Ella Heinitiz and Rhiannon Glazier both had three kills.  Cassy Geraets finished with 18 set assists, four digs and two blocks.  Adyn Heinricy had 16 digs defensively for St Mary.

St Mary, 7-13 on the season, will host Estelline on Thursday, October 5th.  The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Elks Stay Hot with Win over Cardinals

DRSMvsELB_VB_9-28-17The Elkton-Lake Benton Elks won their ninth match out of their last ten after defeating the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals in straight sets on Thursday, September 29th, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  Elkton-Lake Benton won by scores of 25-9, 25-17, 25-13.

Maddie Schwebach and Cassie Mullaney both had three kills in the match.  Rhiannon Glazier and Veronica Beck both had two kills.  Adyn Heinricy had three digs.  Carly Maxwell finished with two digs.  Mullaney and Beck were both credited with a block.  Ella Heinitz had 11 set assists.  The Elks were led by Hannah Krog with 18 kills, Karlie Christensen with 10 digs, and Callie Otkin with 40 set assists.

St Mary falls to 7-12 on the year.  The Cardinals will host Freeman on Monday, October 2nd.

Baltic Defeats St Mary in Volleyball Action

DRSM LogoThe Baltic Bulldogs defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Tuesday, September 26th, in straight sets by scores of 25-14, 25-14, 25-17.

Cassie Mullaney had five kills for the Cardinals.  Maddie Schwebach added four kills, and Veronica Beck had three kills.  Mullaney also had three blocks, two ace serves, and one dig.  Adyn Heinricy and Rhiannon Glazier both had nine digs.  Cassy Geraets had 17 set assists in the match.

Baltic was led by Carrington Entringer with 10 kills.  Nikya Owns had six kills, and Madalynn Wirkus had four kills. Shelby Dosch had eight ace serves.  Jayda Tidemann had eight digs.  Dosch and Brooke VanDam had nine set assists.

St Mary (7-11) will host Elkton-Lake Benton on Thursday, September 28th.  The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Cardinal Volleyball 4th at Elkton Tournament

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team finished fourth at the Don Magnus Tournament in Elkton on Saturday, September 23rd.  St Mary finished with a 2-3 record on the day.  The Cardinals had wins over Iroquois and Irene-Wakonda.

St Mary opened the tournament with a loss to Hills-Beaver Creek in straight sets, 2-0.  Maddie Schwebach had one kill in the match.  Ella Heinitz had an ace serve.  Adyn Heinricy had five digs. Cassy Geraets and Rhiannon Glaizer both had three digs.  Geraets finished with seven set assists.

The Cardinals then lost in straight sets, 2-0, to Elkton-Lake Benton.  Schwebach and Glazier had two kills each.  Cassie Mullaney had one kill.  Geraets had two ace serves.  Heinricy led the team with 12 digs in the match.  Carly Maxwell had six digs.  Geraets also had five set assists.

St Mary picked up their first win in their third match with a straight set win over Iroquois.  Schwebach led the team with nine kills in the match.  Mullaney and Veronica Beck both had five kills each.  Schwebach also had three ace serves.  Heinricy had five digs.  Geraets finished with 24 set assists, while Heinitz had 14 set assists.

St Mary also won their fourth match, 2-1, against Irene-Wakonda.  Schwebach had six more kills in the match.  Beck added five kills.  Geraets and Mulaney both had four kills.  Heinricy finished with two ace serves and 12 digs.  Maxwell and Glazier both had seven digs defensively.

The Cardinals finished the tournament with a loss to Alcester-Hudson, 2-0.  Mullaney led the team with four kills.  Beck and Glazier had three kills.  Heinricy had four more digs.  Heinitz had 24 set assists, and Geraets had 14 set assists.

St Mary (7-10) will host Baltic on Tuesday, September 26th.

Cardinal Volleyball Falls to C-E Hawks

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team fell to the Colman-Egan Hawks 3-1 on Thursday, September 21st, at Colman-Egan High School.  The Hawks won by set scores of 25-15, 25-14, 22-25, 25-15.

The Cardinals had a balanced offensive attack.  Maddie Schwebach finished with five kills to lead the team.  Rhainnon Glazier, Veronica Beck, and Ella Heinitz all had four kills each.  Cassie Mullaney added three kills.  Cassy Geraets, Schwebach, and Mullaney all had two blocks apiece.  Adyn Heinricy had 14 digs.  Geraets finished the match with 20 set assists.

The Cardinals fall to 5-7 on the season.  St Mary will play in the Elkton-Lake Benton tournament in Elkton on Saturday, September 23rd.

Cardinal Volleyball Reaches .500 Mark

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team evened their season record after a 3-0 match win over the Flandreau Indian School on Tuesday, September 12th.  The Cardinals won by scores of 25-7, 25-14, 25-7.

Maddie Schwebach led the team with four kills on the night.  Veronica Beck had three kills.  Cassy Geraets had two kills, and Ella Heinitz and Rhiannon Glaizer each had a kill.  Heinitiz, Glazier, and Schwebach all had a block at the night as well.  Adyn Heinricy finished the match with four digs to lead the team.  Geraets and Carly Maxwell both had three digs.  Geraets had a game-high 19 set assists in the match.

The Cardinals (5-5) will travel to Canistota to play the Hawks on Thursday, September 14th.

Cardinal Volleyball Falls to Lake Preston

DRSM LogoThe Lake Preston Divers defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals in straight sets on Thursday, September 7th, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  The Divers won by scores of 25-5, 25-16, 25-19.

Veronica Beck led the offense in kills with four in the match.  Cassie Mullaney, Rhiannon Glazier, and Maddie Schwebach all had two kills each.  Schwebach had four blocks at the net for the Cardinals.  Cassy Geraets added two blocks.  Geraets also finished the night with 11 set assists and five digs.  Adyn Heinricy led the team in digs with 15.

The Cardinals (4-5) are back in action on Tuesday, September 12th, when they travel to the Flandreau Indian School.

Arlington Gets Win over Cardinal Volleyball

DRSMvsArl_VB_8-31-17The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals fell to the Arlington Cardinals on Thursday, August 31st, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.  Arlington won in straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-10, 25-16.

St Mary and Arlington were tied 5-5 early in the first set, but Arlington used a couple of big runs and closed out the set on a 20-7 run to take the first set.  Arlington continued the momentum into the second set and raced out to 7-1 early lead.  They continued to roll in the second set and won 25-10.  St Mary and Arlington played a close third set through the first half.  The score was tied 10-10 before Arlington made another run to close out the match.

Cassy Geraets had three kills the lead the team.  Adyn Heinricy, Cassie Mullaney, Ella Heinitz, Rhiannon Glazier, and Veronica Beck all had two kills each.  Maddie Schwebach finished with three blocks.  Geraets had seven set assists, while Heinitz added six.  Heinricy ended the match with 32 digs.

St Mary (3-4) will travel to Castlewood on Tuesday, September 5th.
