The Dell Rapids Quarrier  varsity wrestling team participated in the Dan Pansch/Jesse James Invitational on Saturday, January 7th.  The event was held in Brandon and hosted by Garretson.

Dell Rapids finished with a team score of 64.5 points, which placed them 13th as a team.  Canton finished first with 212.0 points.  Harrisburg was second with 172.5 points, and Vermillion was third with 150.5 points.  There were 19 teams that participated in the tournament.

The Quarriers had six wrestlers that placed in the top eight of their respective weight-class brackets.  Zach McKee finished 6th, James Lueders finished 4th, Mitchell Klinkenborg finished 8th, Ben Cavigielli finished 8th, Nick Schmidt finished 5th, and Nick Palmer finished 4th.

Dell Rapids will host a Dak-12 meet on Tuesday, January 10th.  Big Sioux Media will have live webcast of the event.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling team won one dual and lost another in their first Dak-12 meet of the year on Tuesday, December 13th, in Tea.  The Quarriers fell to Lennox 45.00 – 33.00, but Dell Rapids defeated Tea Area 57.00 – 24.00.

Dell Rapids is scheduled to be at the Madison Tournament on Saturday, December 17th.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling team placed sixth at the “Top of the Rock” wrestling tournament on Saturday, December 3rd, at Dell Rapids High School.  It was the opening tournament for the team in the 2016-2017 season.  Dell Rapids finished with 106.5 points.  Beresford/Alcester-Hudson placed first with 186.0 points.  Wabasso/Red Rock Central was second with 152.5 points, and Bon Homme/Scotland was third with 135.5 points.

The Quarriers had six wrestlers place during the day.  Andrew Weiland placed fourth in the 106B weight class.  Zack McKee won the 113 weight class.  Scott Warwick finished fourth in the 126 weight class.  Mitchell Klinkenborg placed third in the 182 weight class.  Tate Longville was fourth in the 220 weight class, and Ben Cavigielli placed second in the 220 weight class.

Three Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestlers are in Rapid City for the State A Wrestling Tournament Friday, February 26th, and Saturday February 27th.

James Lueders (145 lb) lost his opening match on Friday in an 11-1 major decision to Trent Francom of Huron.  Lueders earned a pin over PJ Parmelee of Tea Area, but lost his next match in a 4-1 decision to Collin Haar of Aberdeen Central.

Lathon Gorospe (220 lb) placed 8th at this year’s tournament.  He was pinned in his opening match of the tournament on Friday by Tristin Beckstead of Aberdeen Central.  Gorospe then pinned Marc Williams of Spearfish, and then defeated Donavan Spencer of Rapid City Central in a 4-0 decision.  Gorospe started his day on Saturday in a match against Joel Carpenter of Sturgis Brown.  Carpenter earned a 9-0 major decision.  In the 7th/8th place match, Gorospe fell to Adam Voss of Douglas in a 4-0 decision.

Nick Schmidt (285 lb) was pinned by Nick Ryan Parker of Dakota Valley in his opening match on Friday.  Schmidt was then pinned by Jon Dreamer of Pine Ridge.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier wrestling team placed three wrestlers at the Region 1A meet in Madison on Saturday, February 20th.  Dell Rapids finished with 35.0 team points.  Sioux Falls Roosevelt placed first as a team with 217.0 points.  Brookings was second with 135.0 points, and Watertown was third with 135.0 points.

James Lueders (145), Lathon Gorospe (220), and Nick Schmidt (285) all placed in the top four at the region meet and qualified for the 2016 South Dakota State A Wrestling Tournament held Friday and Saturday, February 26th and 27th, at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.

Dell Rapids will host a triangular with Sioux Falls Roosevelt and Sioux Falls Lincoln on Thursday, February 11th.

Three wrestlers for the Dell Rapids Quarriers placed at the Les Tlustos Wrestling Invitational held in Brookings on Saturday, January 30th.  The team finished with a total of 42.0 points.  Pierre placed first as a team with 247.0 points.  Sioux Falls Roosevelt was second with 199.5 points, and Spearfish was third with 178.5 points.

The Dell Rapids Quarrier Wrestling team picked up two dual wins at Dakota Valley in their fourth Dak-12 meet of the year.  The Quarriers defeated Elk Point-Jefferson 42-40 and also defeated Dakota Valley 60-24 on Tuesday, January 19th.

Trevon Cross, Gage Carr, James Lueders, Isaac Land, Ben Cavigielli, and Lathon Gorospe were all undefeated on the night.

Dell Rapids will travel to Garretson for a triangular with Garretson and Sioux Falls O’Gorman on Thursday, January 21st.
