Quarriers Notch First Win with Straight Set Sweep

Playing in just their second home match of the season and the first time at home in September, the Dell Rapids Quarriers earned their first win of the season over the Canton C-Hawks on Tuesday, September 17th. Dell Rapids won in straight sets by scores of 25-22, 25-18, and 25-13.

Dell Rapids used a balanced attacking offense in the win. Olivia Prasek finished with eight kills. Mackenzie Grisham had seven kills, and Kenzie Garry had six kills. Sam Price finished the night with 22 set assists. Emma VanRegenmorter had four blocks at the net. Price, Garry, and Prasek all finished with two blocks each. Gabi Rus anchored the back row defense with 20 digs. Mallory Haak and Grisham both added nine digs each.

The Quarriers (1-8) hit the road again on Thursday, September 19th. Dell Rapids will travel to Tri-Valley High School to play the Mustangs.

Quarrier Volleyball Drops Two During Week

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team completed a tough week of games by facing #4 Elk Point-Jefferson on Tuesday, September 3rd and #1 Sioux Falls Christian on Thursday, September 5th, both on the road. It was the sixth and seventh matches for Dell Rapids in a span of a week.

The Quarriers held tough against the fourth-ranked Huskies on Tuesday. Dell Rapids lost a tough first set by a score of 27-25, and then lost the next two sets by the same score of 25-18.

Dell Rapids then traveled to Sioux Falls to play the top-ranked Chargers on Thursday. The Quarriers held a slim 10-9 lead in the first set, but Sioux Falls Christian went on a 9-2 run to take an 18-12 lead. The Chargers would hold on for the set win at 25-16.

After the second set was tied 6-6, Dell Rapids scored three straight points for a 9-6 lead. Again the Chargers went on a 9-2 run for a 15-11 lead. Dell Rapids tied the set at 19-19, and then took the lead at 21-20. The Chargers tied the set at 21-21 before Dell Rapids scored the next two points for a 23-21 lead. Sioux Falls Christian scored the next three points for a 24-23 lead. Dell Rapids tied it, but the Chargers scored the final two points for the 26-24 win.

Dell Rapids was within a point of the Chargers at 9-8, but Sioux Falls Christian reeled off six straight points for a 15-8 lead. The Chargers continued to roll from there, as they went on to win the set by a score of 25-14 and take the match.

Mackenzie Grisham led the team with five kills against the Chargers. Mallory Haak had four kills. Liz Prize had 17 set assists. Grisham also led the team with 15 digs, while Gabi Rus had 12 digs. Both Grisham and Rus had an ace serve. Emma VanRegenmorter had a block.

The Quarriers (0-7) will be on a break for a week. Dell Rapids will travel to Tea to play the Tea Area Titans on Thursday, September 12th.

Quarrier Volleyball Results from Canton

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team competed in the Canton Tournament on Saturday, August 31st playing matches against West Sioux, IA, Canistota, Vermillion, and Garretson. The Quarriers finished 8th in the tournament.

The Quarriers started the tournament with a three-set match against West Sioux. Dell Rapids fell by scores of 18-25, 25-13, 21-25. The second match of pool play was against Canistota. The Quarriers fell in straight sets by scores of 14-25, 20-25. The final pool play match was against Vermillion, and the Tanagers defeated Dell Rapids 23-25, 25-22, 10-25. Dell Rapids then played Garretson in the 7th/8th place match in the tournament. The Blue Dragons defeated Dell Rapids 24-26, 25-13, 25-23.

Dell Rapids (0-5) will travel to Elk Point to play the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Tuesday, September 3rd.

Quarrier Volleyball Drops Close Battle to West Central

Starting their 2019 season at home, the Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team lost a hard-fought, close battle to the West Central Trojans on Thursday, August 29th. The Trojans defeated the Quarriers 25-18, 20-25, 27-25, 27-25 for the win.

West Central grabbed the momentum early in the first set and raced to an 11-4 lead. The lead grew to 23-12, but Dell Rapids was able cut the lead down to 24-18 before West Central took the win in the first set. After a 4-4 tie early in the second set, the Quarriers took a 12-8 lead. The Trojans tied the game at 15-15, and the two teams went back-and-forth over the next few points. Dell Rapids pulled away late at 22-18 and closed out the set 25-20 to tie the match at 1-1.

The third set went back-and-forth early, but by the middle of the set the Trojans found themselves in the lead at 15-10. West Central continued to maintain a five-point lead at 22-17, but Dell Rapids went on a 7-1 run to take a 24-23 lead. The Trojans scored the next two points to retake the lead at 25-24. After a 25-25 tie score, the Trojans scored the final two points for the win.

The Quarriers took momentum early in the fourth set and looked to be headed towards forcing a fifth set leading 16-9. The Trojans, however, went on a 9-2 scoring run to tie the set at 18-18. Dell Rapids recovered to take a 24-20 lead, but again the Trojans went on a late run of five straight points to take a 25-24 lead. The Quarriers tied the set at 25-25, but West Central scored the final two points for the match win.

Dell Rapids was led by Kyra Graham with six kills. Olivia Prasek added five kills. Mallory Haak finished with 22 set assists, seven digs, and two ace serves. Gabi Rus had 12 digs. Graham also had two blocks, and Kenzie Garry had a block.

The Quarriers (0-1) will play in the Canton Invite on Saturday, August 31st.

Quarriers Fall in SoDak 16 to EPJ

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team had their 2018 season come to an end in the SoDak 16 on Tuesday, November 6th at Brandon Valley High School. The Quarriers fell in straight sets to the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies by scores of 25-11, 25-12, 25-16.

Elk Point-Jefferson set the tone early in the match. The Huskies got out to a big 9-1 lead right away in the first set. The Quarriers could never really get much going in the first set. The Huskies grew the lead to 15 points at 18-3 on their way to the first set victory.

The Huskies started the second set with a slim 7-5 lead, but unfortunately for the Quarriers, Elk Point-Jefferson then went on an 11-4 run to take an 18-9 lead. The Huskies found themselves in control and closed out the second set on a 7-3 run for the win.

The Quarriers found themselves quickly behind 5-0 to start the third set. Dell Rapids was able to get to within three points a couple of time at 7-4 and 9-6. Both times the Huskies were able to get the lead back to five points. Elk Point-Jefferson was able to push their lead to eight points 19-11. The Husckies closed out the set and match outscoring Dell Rapids 6-5 for the win.

Dell Rapids finished their season with a 21-9 overall record.

Quarriers Back to the SoDak 16

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team advanced to the “SoDak 16” for the second year in a row with a Region 3A win over the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Thursday, November 1st at Sioux Falls Christian High School. Dell Rapids won in straight sets by scores of 25-16, 25-7, 27-25.

Dell Rapids started the match on fire jumping out to a 9-4 lead early in the first set. The Mustangs closed the game to 9-7, but the Quarriers responded with a 6-0 run to pull away at 15-7. Dell Rapids pushed that lead to 22-12. Tri-Valley cut the lead to 22-16, but the Quarriers closed out the first set on a 3-0 run for the win. Dell Rapids was able to carry that momentum into the second set. The Quarriers cruised to a 25-7 win to take a 2-0 lead.

Tri-Valley would not go away easily in the third set. The two teams were locked in a close battle throughout the entire third set. Tri-Valley took a 6-4 lead early on in the set and was able to maintain a lead through the first half of the third set. Dell Rapids was able to take the lead at 15-14. Neither team was able to get a lead greater than two points throughout the remainder of the set. Dell Rapids had the advantage at 24-23, 25-24, and 26-25. The Quarriers got the final point on a rotation violation for the match win.

Dell Rapids (21-8) advances to the “SoDak 16”. The Quarriers will face the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Tuesday, November 6th. The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarriers Reach 20 Wins in Final Regular Season Match

A night after a long, hard-fought, five-set battle against Beresford, the Dell Rapids Quarriers closed out their regular season at home on Tuesday, October 23rd against the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks. The Quarriers reached the 20-win mark with a straight set win by scores of 25-13, 25-15, 25-19.

Dell Rapids got out to four-to-five point leads early in each set and slowly grew the leads throughout the sets. The Quarriers controlled each set on their way to the match victory.

Jayda Knuppe finished with 14 kills and three ace serves. Maria Jackson had eight kills, and Kyra Graham had seven kills. Hannah Fletcher finished with 32 set assists. Brooke Klein had 31 digs. Knuppe and Mackenzie Grisham both had eight digs, and Sam Price tallied seven digs.

The Quarriers (20-8) will enter the Region 3A tournament as the #2 seed. Dell Rapids will have a first-round bye and will play the winner of Tri-Valley and Garretson on Thursday, November 1st. The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarriers Win Thriller in Beresford

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team won an exciting five-set match in Beresford against the Watchdogs on Monday, October 22nd. Dell Rapids won by set scores of 28-26, 23-25, 25-22, 23-25, 15-7.

Jayda Knuppe had a strong offensive night with 25 kills. Maria Jackson and Kyra Graham both had nine kills, while Hannah Fletcher and Mackenzie Grisham both had five kills each. Fletcher finished the match with 51 set assists along with 25 digs. Brooke Klein had 45 digs, while Grisham had 18 digs. Dezi Rus tallied 10 digs. Grisham also finished with three ace serves, and Klein added two ace serves.

The Quarriers (19-8) will end their regular season at home against Elkton-Lake Benton on Tuesday, October 23rd as they go for win number 20 on the season. The match can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Madison Edges Quarriers in Five Sets

In a Dak-12 match-up, the Madison Bulldogs defeated the Dell Rapids Quarriers in a five-set match on Tuesday, October 16th in Madison. The set scores in the Madison win were 25-18, 16-25, 25-14, 21-25, 15-7.

Mackenzie Grisham and Jayda Knuppe led the offensive attack for Dell Rapids. Grisham had 13 kills, while Knuppe finished with eight. Knuppe and Brooke Klein both had an ace serve in the match. Klein also led the back-row defense with 28 digs. Hannah Fletcher finished the night with 17 digs and 39 set assists. Maria Jackson finished with five blocks at the net.

The Quarriers (18-8) will travel to Beresford on Monday, October 22nd.

Quarriers Place 3rd at Dak-12 VB Tourney

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team entered the Dak-12 Conference tournament as the #3 seed team on Saturday, October 13th at Dakota Valley High School.

The #3 seed earned the Quarriers a first-round bye, so their first match was against the Vermillion Tanagers who defeated West Central prior. Dell Rapids beat Vermillion in straight sets (25-16, 25-23) to earn a trip to the semi-final round.

The Quarriers had to face the #2 seed Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies in the semi-finals. The Huskies beat Lennox to advance to this round. Elk Point-Jefferson defeated Dell Rapids in straight sets (25-16, 25-12) to advance to the championship match and send Dell Rapids to the 3rd place match.

Dell Rapids med up with the Dakota Valley Panthers, who fell to Sioux Falls Christian in the other semi-final round. The Quarriers took the match and placed third with a three-set win by scores of 25-23, 18-25, 25-20. In this match Hannah Fletcher had 18 set assists, eight digs, and five kills. Jayda Knuppe had six kills and three digs. Mackenzie Grisham and Maria Jackson both had four kills. Grisham also had 11 digs and two ace serves. Brooke Klein ended the third-place match with 16 digs.

With the 2-1 record in the tournament, Dell Rapids now has a season record of 18-7. The Quarriers will travel to Madison on Tuesday, October 16th.
