Harrisburg Hands Quarriers Loss

On Tuesday, October 9th, the Quarriers were defeated by the Harrisburg Tigers.  All three squad fell to the host team.  The varsity lost 14-25, 20-25, and 22-25.  Leaders for the Quarriers included Cassidy Wright and Morgan Hoglund with nine kills and nine digs respectively.  The Quarriers’ record now stands at 10-10.

The JV were defeated by the set scores of 12-21 and 21-25.  Cited for their efforts were Mara Adams, Maria Nagelhout, Brittnay Welbig, and Brittney Siemonsma.

The C team dropped their contest 14-25 and 22-25.  Sami Reider and Lizzy Gottsch paced the team efforts.

Dell Rapids will host Sioux Falls Christian on Thursday, October 11th.  The match will be webcast on Big Sioux Media

Quarriers Drop Match to Sioux Valley

On Thursday, October 4th, the Quarriers fell to a tough Sioux Valley Cossack squad three sets to zero.  The set scores were 14-25, 22-25, and 20-25.  Margo Hegge recorded eight service points and Morgan Hoglund chipped in with seven points.  MacKenzie Rinehart and Cassidy Wright each smacked six kills. Aleza Kirschenmann recorded 13 set assists.  The Quarriers record stands at 10-9.  Dell Rapids will travel to Harrisburg to take on the Tigers on Tuesday, October 9th.

Quarriers Outlast Fighting Cougars

The Dell Rapids Quarriers defeated the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars in volleyball action on Tuesday, September 25th, in four sets by scores of 11-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-16.  The Quarriers got out to a slow start in the first set falling behind 17-6 as the Cougars took advantage of miscues throughout the set.  Dell Rapids was able to shake off the first set, and came back strong in the second set with a quick 7-3 run.  McCook Central/Montrose fought back to tie the set at 9-9, but Dell Rapids then went on a 9-1 run, and closed out the second set 25-15.  The Quarriers got out to a quick start in the third set 8-3, but again the Cougars were able to fight back to tie the set up 11-11.  McCook Central/Montrose eventually took a short lead at 17-15, but the Quarriers made a late run of 10-3 to take the third set 25-20.  Using the momentum from the third set, McKenzie Rinehart served three straight aces to start the fouth set.  Again the Cougars would fight back to within one point at 5-4.  Dell Rapids would put the set and match away with an 11-3 run, and eventually won the fourth set 25-16.

Margo Hegge had five kills and eight set assists on the night for Dell Rapids.  Rinehart had 12 points and five kills.  Cassidy Wright added seven kills and had two blocks.  Mikaela Sofferahn added 12 points for the Quarriers, while Maddie Vietor had five kills and a block.  Aleza Kirschenmann led the team with 20 set assists.  With the win, the Quarriers’ record now stands at 8-8.

“The team reacted well to all of the multiple position changes.  I feel that the new changes will make us the best that we can be.  It will take time to get use to playing together, but I really like what I saw.  There were many good things done out on that floor,” commented Coach Dale Solberg.

The JV team dropped a tough match by the set scores of 17-25 and 23-25.  Leaders on the night included Jordan Stone, Karlie Leighton, Brittnay Welbig, Brittney Siemonsma  and Maria Nagelhout.  The C team impressively caged the Cougars by the set scores of 25-17 and 25-6.  Mariah Warne, Bailey Munk, Megan Miles, Hannah Welbig, and Kiah Schumacher paced a total team effort.  Next action is at Lennox on Thursday, September 27th.

Quarriers Sweep Flandreau in Volleyball Action

On Thursday, September 20th, the Dell Rapids Quarriers swept the Flandreau Fliers in all three matches of the night.  The varsity won three sets to one, by scores of 22-25, 27-25, 25-16, and 25-17.  Morgan Hoglund contributed 18 points while collecting 21 digs on defense for the Quarriers.  McKenzie Rinehart had 13 kills and 12 service points.  Cassidy Wright had eight kills and three blocks.  Margo Hegge added six kills and 13 digs defensively for Dell Rapids.  Sarah Haak added eight points and Aleza Kirshenmann led the team with 20 set assists.

“A win is always good, but how we played is more important.  I felt we had a better sustained effort on both sides of the net.  We made some adjustments that helped the cause.  It was a nice victory for the team,” added Coach Solberg, “everyone contributed which is great to see.”

The JV picked up a win two sets to none, 25-16 and 25-10.  Leaders on the night included Jordan Stone, Maria Nagelhout, Shelby Wrage and Brittnay Welbig.

The C team split their match by the set scores of 23-25, 25-16.   The third set was forfeited due to the five set playing rule. The offense was lead by Hannah Welbig and Mara Adams.  Alexa DeVos and Kiah Schumacher was credited with anchoring a stellar defensive effort.

Garretson Takes Varsity Match Against Quarriers

Tuesday night, September 18th, the Dell Rapids volleyball teams traveled to Garretson and won two of the three matches.  The varsity lost 21-25, 25-17, 23-25, and 22-25.  Sarah Haak had 26 set assists.  Cassidy Wright led the offense with 13 kills while Margo Hegge and McKenzie Rinehart each added six kills.  Rinehart also had 14 service points and Morgan Hoglund added 12.  Hoglund also shined defensively with 17 digs.  The Quarriers record dips to 6-8 overall.

“We are struggling with getting our first pass to Sarah, our setter.  We simply have to keep working at getting that pass close to the net to run our offense effectively.  Until we do that, are struggles will continue.  I know that we will work hard and get it turned around.  We just have to get all the pieces working together at once”, commented Coach Solberg.

The JV and C teams came away with wins by the match scores of 2-0 each.  Kiah Schumacher, Mara Adams, Hannah Welbig, Megan Miles and Brittney Siesmonsa were credited with leading an entire team effort.  Mikaela Stofferahn, Shelby Wrage and Jordan Stone paced the JV team efforts.

Quarrier Volleyball 2-2 at Lake Preston Tournament

On Saturday, September 15th, the Quarriers traveled to play in the Lake Preston Invitational.  In the opening round, the Quarriers fell to a tough Arlington squad by the set scores of 25-11 and 25-19.  In the second match, the netters came back and posted a 25-14 and 25-17 win against the Estelline Redmen.  In their third match of the day, the Quarriers defeated DeSmet by the set scores of 25-18, 16-25 and 25-14.  Arlington ended the Quarriers day by defeating Dell Rapids a second time, 25-22 and 25-11.

Leaders on the day included Margo Hegge with 30 service points.  Cassidy Wright and Madie Vietor recorded 18 and 17 kills respectively.  Sarah Haak added 54 set assists while Morgan Hoglund came up with 42 digs.

Quarriers Fall to Tri-Valley in Volleyball Action

The Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball team lost their match against the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Thursday, September 13th, three sets to one by scores of 26-24, 13-25, 9-25, 8-25.

Dell Rapids gained the momentum early as both teams traded points throughout the first set.  Dell Rapids took the lead 15-13, only to see Tri-Valley rally off three points for a 15-16 lead.  The Quarriers fired back with five straight points for a 20-16 lead.  After being tied at 22-22, Tri-Valley had set point at 23-24, but the Quarriers rallied for the final three points to take set one 26-24.

Dell Rapids got out to an early lead in the second set, but Tri-Valley battled back to tie the set up at 5-5.  The teams were again tied at 7-7 before Tri-Valley rallied for six straight points to take a 7-13 lead.  Dell Rapids would fight back to get the set back to 12-14, but Tri-Valley ended the set on an 11-1 run to win the second set 13-25.

The Quarriers again got out to an early lead in the third set 4-1, but the Mustangs again put a run together of 11 straight points to go up 4-12.  Tri-Valley would win the third set 9-25.  The Quarriers were not able to overcome the momentum the Mustangs gained as Tri-Valley opened up the fourth set with a 9-2 run.  Tri-Valley won the fourth and final set easily 8-25.

Coach Solberg said, “We couldn’t control the nets and the Mustangs dominated us.  We had our moments, but we have to start putting our little runs together. It really starts with our first pass and blocking.”

The loss drops the Quarriers record to 4-5 on the year.  Dell Rapids will play in the Lake Preston Tournament on Saturday, September 15th, and then they will travel to Garretson on Tuesday, September 18th.

Canton Beats Quarrier Volleyball Team

On Tuesday, September 11th, the Quarrier volleyball teams took two of three matches from the C-Hawks of Canton.  The varsity fell 3 sets to 1, while the JV won 2 sets to 1 and C team 2 sets to zero.  The varsity team was defeated by the scores 18-25, 25-22, 18-25, and 17-25.  The JV posted a 25-18, 21-25, and 15-11 win.  The C team was impressive in a 25-16 and 25-19 victory over the C-Hawks.

Leaders for the varsity included Sarah Haak with 18 set assists.  Morgan Hoglund dug up 17 opponents attacks and Aleza Kirschenmann added 10.  Margo Hegge and McKenzie Rinehart had eight and six kills respectively.  The Quarriers record drops to 4-4 on the season.

JV offensive standouts included Britnay Welbig and Mikaela Adams.  Shelby Wrage anchored the defense.  In the C match, the offense was lead by Mara Adams, Alexa DeVos, and Hannah Welbig.  Defensive leaders included Shelby Wrage and Bailey Munk.

“This match is one we need to forget and move on.  We were flat and our performance reflected it,” lamented Coach Solberg. “We need to continue to work hard at improving in all facets of the game.”

The next match for Dell Rapids will be Thursday, September 13th, when the Tri-Valley Mustangs come to town.  The game will be on a webcast on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Volleyball 1-1 on the Week

Tuesday, September 4th, the Quarriers swept West Central in all three matches.  The varsity came back and defeated the Trojans 3 sets to 2, while the JV and C teams posted 2-1 and 2-0 wins respectively.  In the varsity match, Dell Rapids won by the set scores of 27-25, 9-25, 17-25, 25-17 and 15-11.  Morgan Hoglund had a stellar 18 digs.  Sarah Haak chipped in 20 set assists and nine service points, and McKenzie Rinehart added nine points.  Cassidy Wright and Madie Vietor smacked seven and six kills respectively.

The JV posted a 27-25, 24-26, and 15-10 win.  Leaders on the night included Mikaela Stofferahn, Britnay Welbig and Maria Nagelhout.  The C team won 25-18 and 25-15.  Shelby Wrage, Mara Adams, Brittney Siemonsma led the C team offense while Brittany Siemonsma and Hannah Welbig anchored the defense.

On Thursday, September 6th, the volleyball teams went 1-2 against the Tea Titans.   The varsity fell three sets to one.  The C team picked up the only win, while the JV lost two sets to one.

The varsity came up short by the scores of 27-25, 12-25, 24-26, and 22-25.  Madie Vietor and Cassidy Wright slammed nine and eight kills respectively.  Margo Hegge and McKenzie Rinehart each chipped in five kills.  Madie had four blocks for points and Sarah Haak contributed 21 set assists.   Morgan Hoglund had an impressive 20 digs; McKenzie added 15 and Margo had 11.  The Quarriers record stands at 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the Big Sioux Conference.

The JV lost 20-25, 25-22, and 8-15.  Jordan Stone, Cheyenne Spielmann, Maria Naglehout, and Britnay Welbig led the offensive efforts.  Karlie Leighton and Jessica Lambert anchored the defense.

The C team swatted away the Titans by the set scores of 25-6 and 25-10.  Offensive standouts included Hannah Welbig and Shelby Wrage.  Brittney Siemonsma, Kiah Schumacher, Sami Reider, and Krysten Williams were also credited for their offensive efforts.

Head coach Dale Solberg said, “We are excelling in many facets of the game, but are making too many unforced errors during critical parts of the matches.  I really like how the girls play together, and we are only going to get better.  The girls are really, really scrappy and fun to watch.”

The teams travel to Canton on Tuesday, September 11th and host the Tri-Valley Mustangs Thursday, September 13th.  The match against Tri-Valley will be webcasted.

Dell Rapids Quarrier Volleyball 3-1 at Canton Tournament

This past Saturday, August 25th, the varsity volleyball team played in the Canton Invitational and took home 3rd place.  The Quarriers were 3-1 on the day.   In the opening match, the Quarriers beat the Lennox Orioles by the set scores of 25-20 and 25-20.  In their second match, the netters defeated Garretson 25-3 and 25-16.  West Sioux, Iowa handed the Quarriers their only match loss on the day by the scores of 14-25, 25-22 and 25-16.  In the 3rd place match, the Quarriers defeated West Central 3-0 by the scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 31-29.

Offensive leaders for the Quarriers included Cassidy Wright who had 27 kills and 25 points, Margo Hegge with 17 kills and 26 points,  McKenzie Rinehart had 13 kills and 14 points, and Mikaela Stofferahn had 12 kills.  Sarah Haak had 72 set assists and 26 points.  Morgan Hoglund paced the defense with 33 digs for the tournament.

The Quarriers host Elk Point-Jefferson on Tuesday night with the C team starting at 5:00 p.m.
