The Dell Rapids Quarriers defeated the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars in volleyball action on Tuesday, September 25th, in four sets by scores of 11-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-16. The Quarriers got out to a slow start in the first set falling behind 17-6 as the Cougars took advantage of miscues throughout the set. Dell Rapids was able to shake off the first set, and came back strong in the second set with a quick 7-3 run. McCook Central/Montrose fought back to tie the set at 9-9, but Dell Rapids then went on a 9-1 run, and closed out the second set 25-15. The Quarriers got out to a quick start in the third set 8-3, but again the Cougars were able to fight back to tie the set up 11-11. McCook Central/Montrose eventually took a short lead at 17-15, but the Quarriers made a late run of 10-3 to take the third set 25-20. Using the momentum from the third set, McKenzie Rinehart served three straight aces to start the fouth set. Again the Cougars would fight back to within one point at 5-4. Dell Rapids would put the set and match away with an 11-3 run, and eventually won the fourth set 25-16.
Margo Hegge had five kills and eight set assists on the night for Dell Rapids. Rinehart had 12 points and five kills. Cassidy Wright added seven kills and had two blocks. Mikaela Sofferahn added 12 points for the Quarriers, while Maddie Vietor had five kills and a block. Aleza Kirschenmann led the team with 20 set assists. With the win, the Quarriers’ record now stands at 8-8.
“The team reacted well to all of the multiple position changes. I feel that the new changes will make us the best that we can be. It will take time to get use to playing together, but I really like what I saw. There were many good things done out on that floor,” commented Coach Dale Solberg.

The JV team dropped a tough match by the set scores of 17-25 and 23-25. Leaders on the night included Jordan Stone, Karlie Leighton, Brittnay Welbig, Brittney Siemonsma and Maria Nagelhout. The C team impressively caged the Cougars by the set scores of 25-17 and 25-6. Mariah Warne, Bailey Munk, Megan Miles, Hannah Welbig, and Kiah Schumacher paced a total team effort.
