Dakota Valley Invite Girls Golf Results

April 19, 2014 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

Quarrier LogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team traveled to Dakota Valley on Friday, April 18th.  The event was shortened due to poor weather conditions.  April Tomes led the team with a nine-hole round of 49.  Sarah Haak finished with a round of 55, and Kaitlyn Greenhoff ended the day with a 56.

Head coach Jeff Dvorak said,  “The girls had been hitting at the range or inside but were unable to play any holes before this meet. So it was good to just get out on a course and knock it around a little bit.  I look forward to seeing our improvement.”

The Quarriers will play in the West Central Invite on Tuesday, April 22nd.

Two Quarrier Golfers Qualify for State

May 14, 2013 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team participated in the Region 1A Meet at Valley View Golf Course in Sisseton on Monday, May 13th.  The region meet consisted of eight teams of five players each.  Dell Rapids finished in 5th place with a total score of 483.  Madison won the meet with a 407.  Milbank finished second with 417, and Aberdeen Roncalli finished third with a 476.  All three of those teams will send their entire team to the state meet in Milbank on May 20 and May 21.  Individually for Dell Rapids, Aleza Kirschenmann finished 12th and qualified for state with a round of 111.  April Tomes finished in 13th place and also qualified for state with a round of 112.  Sarah Haak finished with a 126, just five strokes off from qualifying for state.  Natasha Reit finished with a round of 134, and Courtney Sorsen ended with a 144.

Head coach Jeff Dvorak said, “First off, let’s start with something really positive.  Congrats to April and Aleza who qualified for the state golf tournament in Milbank next week.  Great job, girls.  Those two girls have been very steady all season and deserve to play at State.  I am a bit disappointed in not getting our whole team in.  If each kid would’ve just shot two strokes better, which they were very capable of doing, we would all be going.  So right now, I think the girls are hanging their heads a bit.  The wind really seemed to take a toll on us today, and not having much or any experience with Region golf, nerves and tough weather contributed to our demise.  Although I am disappointed in not getting the team in, I am proud of our progress this year.  In the short season we had, the girls came a long way in understanding the game.  Hopefully, we can put some time in this summer and earn our way to State next year.”

Quarrier Girls Golfers Prepare for Regions

May 13, 2013 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team participated in the Sioux Falls Christian Invite on Friday, May 3rd.  The Quarriers finished with a team score of 494.  Parkston won the event with a team score of 326.  Aleza Kirschenmann had the best round for the Quarriers with a 111 to finish in 15th place.  April Tomes finished with a 115, Natasha Reit shot a 124, Courtney Sorsen and Brittnay Welbig each finished with a round of 144, and Sarah Haak shot a 145.  Head coach Jeff Dvorak said, “I thought Aleza had a decent round considering the weather conditions. Today we were not mentally strong, and it seemed that when one or two things didn’t go our way, we threw in the towel.  We need to be tougher mentally and put away our bad shots.  I’m still proud of the fact that the girls had pretty good attitudes despite the cold and wind.”

On Monday, May 6th, the Quarriers played in the Big Sioux Conference Meet held at Two Rivers Golf Course.  Dell Rapids finished with a team score of 426 for 5th place out of eight teams.  Sioux Falls Christian finished first as a team with a score 328.  Kirschenmann again had the best individual round for the Quarriers with a 99, finishing just two spots from a medal.  Tomes finished with a 102, Reit shot a 109, Haak had a round of 116, Sorsen shot a 132, Mariah Warne finished with a 118, Welbig shot a 121, and Taylor Brown finished the day with a 144.  Dvorak said, “We had two or three girls shoot their best scores, and our team score was the lowest of the year.  It feels like we are definitely going in the right direction.  Hopefully, the weather holds, and we’re able to practice this week so that we are at our best for Regions next Monday.  These girls are really sponges and very coachable; they want to work on their game and get better.”

In the final tune-up before Regions, the Quarriers played in the Harrisburg Invite on Thursday, May 9th.  Dell Rapids finished 9th out of 13 teams with a team score of 439.  Parkston won the event with a team score of 305.  Tomes had the best round for the Quarriers with a 102.  Kirschenmann shot a 104, Haak finished with a 113, Reit shot a 120, and Sorsen and Warne each had a round of 128.  Dvorak said, “Once again, I was proud of our showing today.  Each tournament finds someone new posting a personal best and today was no different.  I feel that Monday’s Region tournament up in Sisseton is a place where we could have everyone show up, and we could put up our best team score of the year.  Today’s conditions were miserable and I thought all the girls handled themselves well.”

The Quarriers will play in the Region meet on Monday, May 13th, in Sisseton.

Girls Golfers Hit Links in Vermillion

May 2, 2013 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team participated in the Vermillion Invite on Monday, April 29th, at The Bluffs Golf Course.  April Tomes, Natasha Reit, Aleza Kirschenmann, Sarah Haak, Courtney Sorsen, and Taylor Brown all participated for the Quarriers.  Dell Rapids shot a team score of 462.  Sioux Falls Christian finished first with a team score of 320.  Tomes finished with the best round for Dell Rapids with a 99.  Kirschenmann finished with a 104.  Both of those scores were personal bests.

Head coach Jeff Dvorak said, “We improved our team score by 20 strokes from our 1st meet, and two girls shot their personal best, so I was pleased with that.  We are still giving away too many strokes inside of 50 yards and on the green.  Hopefully, the weather cooperates and allows us some practice time, because I feel these girls would really improve with some hard work on the course.”

The next event is scheduled for Thursday, May 2, at the Sioux Falls Christian Invite.

Quarrier Girls Golf Competes at Dakota Valley

April 17, 2013 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team competed in a last minute meet at Two Rivers Golf Course in Dakota Dunes on Tuesday, April 16th, in what turned out to be a fairly nice day.  The temperature was right under 50 degrees with no wind and party sunny skies.  But more importantly there was no snow on the course.  The varsity golfers that competed were April Tomes, Natasha Reit, Aleza Kirschenmann, Courtney Sorsen, and Sarah Haak.  The JV golfers were Brittnay Welbig, Cassidy Dearduff, Mariah Warne, and Taylor Brown.  The Quarriers finished 8th as a team with a score of 482.  Parkston won the meet with a team score of 327.  Tomes had the top score for the Quarriers wth a 114.  Reit finished with a 114, and Kirschenmann had a 116.  Brown had the top JV score of 134.

Head coach Jeff Dvorak said, “I was impressed with our ability to do a respectable job with so little practice.  Some of our girls competed in their first meet ever and completed the first 18 holes of their lives. As the weather improves, I’m excited about to see the improvements this group will make.”

The meet in Madison that was to take place on Thursday, April 18th, has already been cancelled.  The next scheduled event for the Quarriers as of right now is on Monday, April 22nd, at Central Valley Golf Course.

Head coach Jeff Dvorak said that he was just happy to get his team out to play.  The team has not had one practice hole in before the Garretson meet because the golf course has yet to open.
