Quarrier Girls Win on Back-to-Back Days

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapid Quarriers won their second game in as many days when they defeated the Milbank Area Bulldogs at the Dak-12/NEC Classic in Madison on Saturday, February 3rd.  The Quarriers had a come-from-behind 60-54 victory over the Bulldogs.

Milbank held an early four-point lead throughout the first half of play.  The Bulldogs led 21-17 after the first quarter and kept that lead at 39-35 heading into halftime.  Dell Rapids responded in the third quarter by outscoring Milbank 12-5 to take a 47-44 lead.  The Quarriers then outscored the Bulldogs 13-10 in the final quarter for the win.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 40% from the field, 30% from three-point area, and 60% from the free-throw line.  They had a total of 24 team rebounds, four steals, seven assists, and turned the ball over 10 times.

Jayda Knuppe finished with 17 points in the game.  Aspen Hansen had 11 points.  Sydney Stofferahn had 10 points and five rebounds.

The Quarriers (11-5) will travel to Mt Vernon to play the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans in a girls and boys double-header.

Quarrier Girls Bounce Back with Dak-12 Win

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team got back into the win column with a Dak-12 Conference win against Tri-Valley on Friday, February 2nd on Senior Night.  The Quarriers won 45-39 over the Mustangs at Dell Rapids High School in the final regular-season home game.

After a slow start and being held scoreless for the first three and a half minutes, the Quarriers offense got rolling and took a 13-9 lead after the first quarter of play.  Dell Rapids pushed their lead to eight points at 21-13, but the Mustangs outscored Dell Rapids 6-1 over the final 2:30 of the half to cut the lead to 22-19 by halftime.

Tri-Valley cut the lead to 28-27 with 4:00 to play in the third quarter.  Dell Rapids held the Mustangs scoreless the remainder of the quarter and push their lead back to four points at 31-27 heading into the fourth quarter.  Tri-Valley scored the first four points of the fourth quarter to tie the game at 31-31.  Emma Paul pulled down an offense rebound and scored to give the Quarriers a 33-31 lead with 6:15 to go in the game.  Dell Rapids then went on an 8-1 run to lead 41-32 with 3:40 to go and held on down the stretch for the win.

Paul led Dell Rapids with 16 points.  Regan Stone added six points.  Aspen Hansen, Kaylee Hennen, Sydney Stofferahn, and Arial Hoffman all had five points each.

The Quarriers (10-5) will play Milbank Area on Saturday, February 3rd in Madison at the Dak-12/NEC Classic.  The game will be played at 4:00 p.m. in the auxiliary gym.

The 2017-2018 seniors are Tiffanie Dorale, Kaylee Hennen, Regan Stone, Sydney Stofferahn, Kali Graham, and Arial Hoffman.

Last Second Shot Falls Short for Quarrier Girls

DRvsVerm_GBB_1-25-18After trailing by nine points with 6:00 to go in the game, the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls team trailed by two points and had the ball with :10 to play.  The floater from the middle of the lane at the buzzer hit the back of the rim and fell away no good as the Vermillion Tanagers held on for a 42-40 win over the Quarriers on Thursday, January 25th at Dell Rapids High School.

Dell Rapids trailed Vermillion 6-4 with just over 5:00 to play in the first quarter.  The Quarriers then out scored the Tanagers 9-4 the remainder of the quarter for a 13-8 lead.  Neither offense could get anything going in the second quarter.  The two teams combined for a total of 12 points, which was an 8-4 advantage for Vermillion.  Dell Rapids went to the locker room at halftime leading 17-16.

Vermillion opened the third quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 24-19 lead with 5:17 to play in the quarter.  Vermillion managed to keep a four-to-six point throughout the remainder of the quarter leading 31-25.  The Tanager lead grew to nine points at 36-27 with 6:00 play before Dell Rapids made their run.  Dell Rapids scored the next six points and cut the lead to 36-33 with 3:10 to go in the game.  After a made basket by Vermillion’s Kasey Jensen, Kaylee Hennen made a three-point shot in front of her bench to cut the lead to 38-36 with 2:42 remaining.  Arial Hoffman cut the lead to a point at 38-37 after going one-of-two from the free throw line with 2:06 to play.  Jensen again made a tough basket inside for Vermillion to push the Tanager lead to three points.  Hoffman pulled the Quarriers within two after another one-for-two trip to the free-throw line.  With under :50 to play, Jensen made a reverse layup to give Vermillion a 42-38 lead.  Jayda Knuppe answered with a layup of her own with :27 to go.  Vermillion missed the front end of a one-and-one, and Dell Rapids grabbed the rebound with :16.5 on the clock.  Hennen had the ball stripped on her drive to the lane, and Emma Paul picked up the loose ball and got a shot off from the middle of the lane that hit the back of the rim and fell away no good at the buzzer.

Paul led the team in scoring on the night with 12 points.  Jayda Knuppe finished with eight points.  Hennen added five points.  Aspen Hansen, Ravyn Hoffman, and Sydney Stofferahn all had four points in the game.  A. Hoffman finished with three points.

Dell Rapids (9-5) will host Tri-Valley on Friday, February 2nd as part of a girls and boys double header.  The seniors will also be recognized during Senior Night.  Both games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

EPJ Huskies Stuns Quarrier Girls

A day after scoring 80 points against Sioux Valley, the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls were held to just 37 points and lost to the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 40-37 at Elk Point on Saturday, January 20th.

Dell Rapids was held to just two first quarter points, and Elk Point-Jefferson led 6-2 after the first quarter of play.  The Huskies outscored Dell Rapids 13-11 in the second quarter and pushed their lead to 19-13 by halftime.  The Quarriers made a run in the third quarter and outscored the Huskies 14-5 in the the quarter to take a 27-24 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  Dell Rapids was held to just 10 points while the Huskies scored 16 as Elk Point-Jefferson came away with the upset victory.

Emma Paul led the Quarriers with 12 points in the game.  Arial Hoffman had seven points.  Jayda Knuppe tallied five points.  Aspen Hansen and Sydney Stofferahn each had four points, while Ravyn Hoffman had three points, and Kaylee Hennen had two points.

Dell Rapids (9-4) will host Vermillion on Thursday, January 25th as part of a double header with the boys.  Both games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Girl’s Team Lights up Scoreboard in Win

DRvsSV_GBB_1-19-18The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls scored 80 points in a win over the Sioux Valley Cossacks on Friday, January 19th at Dell Rapids High School.  Dell Rapids scored at least 16 points in each quarter and went on to win 80-65.

Both teams were on fire offensively in the first quarter.  Neither team was able to gain much of an advantage.  Sioux Valley was able to sink a last-second shot to take a 17-16 lead after the first quarter. That’s when the Dell Rapids offense really got going.  The Quarriers scored 24 points while holding Sioux Valley to just 11 in the second quarter.  Dell Rapids led 40-28 at halftime, and this run helped the Quarriers stay far enough ahead the remainder of the game.  Dell Rapids scored another 19 points in the third quarter and extended their lead to 15 points at 59-44 heading into the final quarter.  Sioux Valley made a little run early in the fourth and cut the lead down to nine, but Dell Rapids was able to maintain about a 10-12 point lead throughout much of the quarter for the win.

Arial Hoffman had a game-high 25 points, 20 of those coming in the first half.  Aspen Hansen finished with 16 points, and Sydney Stofferahn added 11 points.  Emma Paul tallied nine points, Ravyn Hoffman had eight points, and Jayda Knuppe finished with seven points.  Sioux Valley was led by Carly Granum with 23 points and Lynsey Stevens with 17 points.

Dell Rapids (9-3) will now play Elk Point-Jefferson in Elk Point on Saturday, January 20th as part of a girls and boys double header.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media with a video only stream.

Quarrier Girls Ends Skid with Big Road Win

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team ended a small, two-game losing streak with a big Region 3A and Dak-12 Conference road win at Hartford.  The Quarriers defeated the #4 ranked West Central Trojans 56-49 on Tuesday, January 16th.  The Trojans were coming off an overtime win over #1 St Thomas More on Friday, January 12th.

Dell Rapids took control in the first half building a 29-16 halftime lead.  The Trojans were only able to cut the lead down to 10 points by the end of the third quarter at 40-30.  West Central tried made a run toward the end of the game, but the Quarriers knocked down their free throws to secure the win.

The Quarriers shot 52% from the field in the game while holding the Trojans to just 27%.  Dell Rapids was 13-20 from the free-throw line, and West Central finished 14-18.

Emma Paul led the way offensively with 14 points in the game.  Arial Hoffman had 11 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Ravyn Hoffman finished with eight points and seven assists.  Jayda Knuppe and Aspen Hansen also had eight points each in the game.

The Quarriers (8-3) will host Sioux Valley on Friday, January 19th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Nighthawks Rally Against Quarrier Girls

NewDRLogoThe Tripp-Delmont/Armour Nighthawks rallied in the second half to defeat the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls 54-46 at the Hanson Classic in Mitchell on Saturday, January 13th.

Dell Rapids led by six points at 19-13 after the first quarter of play.  The Quarriers extended that lead to 12 points with 3:30 to play in the first half, but the Nighthawks cut the lead to three points at 30-27 by halftime.  Tripp-Delmont/Armour continued the run into the third quarter and outscored Dell Rapids 20-14.  The Nighthawks led 47-40 heading into the final quarter.  Dell Rapids was only able to score two points in the final quarter as the Nighthawks took the victory.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 33% from the field, just 23% in the second half.  The Quarriers were 17% from three-point area and 60% from the free-throw line.  Both teams had 14 turnovers in the game.  Dell Rapids had 36 team rebounds and 14 team assists.

Jayda Knuppe led the team with 14 points and eight rebounds.  Aspen Hansen had nine points. Kaylee Henned added seven points, while Emma Paul and Sydney Stofferahn both had six points each.  Stofferahn also had eight rebounds.  Ravyn Hoffman led the team with four assists.

Dell Rapids (7-3) will travel to Hartford to play the West Central Trojans on Tuesday, January 16th.

Lennox Wins Battle Against Quarrier Girls

DRvsLennox_GBB_1-8-18In a battle of top five teams in girls Class A basketball, the #3 ranked Lennox Orioles defeated the #4 ranked Dell Rapids Quarriers 53-47 on Monday, January 8th, at Dell Rapids High School.

After a game-opening three-point basket by Madysen Vlastuin, the Quarriers went on a 7-0 run to take a 7-3 lead with 3:33 to go in the first quarter.  Lennox answered with an 11-2 run to close out the quarter.  The Orioles led 14-9 after the first quarter.  Dell Rapids tied the game at 17-17 after a Tiffanie Dorale basket with 5:32 to go in the second quarter.  The two teams went back and forth trading baskets and were tied 23-23 with :30 to go.  Ravyn Hoffman made a three-point basket with about :25 remaining to give Dell Rapids a 26-23 lead, however, Megan Hinker tied the game at the buzzer to tie the game at 26-26 at halftime.

Lennox took an early second half lead of 33-29 with 4:30 remaining in the third quarter.  Dell Rapids responded with an 11-2 run topped off by a Sydney Stofferahn layup with under a minute to play in the third quarter to take a 40-35 lead.  Rianna Fillipi made a three-point shot for Lennox for the final score of the third quarter, and Dell Rapids led 40-38 heading into the final quarter.  The teams again traded baskets to begin the fourth quarter.  The Quarriers took their final lead of the game at 42-41 with just under 6:00 to go.  Lennox went on a 5-0 run to take a 46-42 lead with 4:00 to go in the game.  The Quarriers pulled within two points at 49-47 with :38 to go after a steal and layup by Arial Hoffman, but Vlastuin made four free-throws down the stretch to seal the victory for Lennox.

Jayda Knuppe led Dell Rapids with 12 points in the game.  A. Hoffman finished with nine points.  R. Hoffman had eight points.  Aspen Hansen had six points, and Tiffanie Dorale, Emma Paul, and Sydney Stofferahn all finished with four points each.

Dell Rapids (7-2) will play the Tripp-Delmont/Armour Nighthawks at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 13th at the Hanson Classic in Mitchell.

Quarrier Girls Hand MCM First Loss of Season

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team won on back-to-back nights and handed the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars their first loss of the season.  The Quarriers came from behind and defeated the Fighting Cougars 55-46 on Friday, January 5th at Dell Rapids High School.

McCook Central/Montrose held the lead in the first three quarters of the game.  The Fighting Cougars led 17-9 after the first quarter of play.  Dell Rapids cut the lead to six points by halftime at 30-24.  McCook Central/Montrose pushed the lead back to eight points at 40-32 after the third quarter, but the Quarriers scored 23 fourth quarter points while holding the Fighting Cougars to just six for the comeback win.

Four players finished in double figures for Dell Rapids.  Arial Hoffman finished the game with 14 points, nine of those coming in the fourth quarter.  Jayda Knuppe had 13 points.  Emma Paul tallied 11 points, six in the fourth quarter.  Aspen Hansen also finished in double figures with 10 points in the game.  Sydney Stofferahn added four points, and Kaylee Hennen had three points.  Morgan Koepsell led the Fighting Cougars with 13 points.

Dell Rapids (7-1) will close out their home stand on Monday, January 8th.  The Quarriers will host another top Class A team and Dak-12 foe, the Lennox Orioles.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarrier Girls Holds off Beresford for Win

DRvsBHS_GBB_1-4-18The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls team held off the Beresford Watchdogs for their sixth win of the season.  The Quarriers defeated the Watchdogs 54-44 on Thursday, January 4th, at Dell Rapids High School.

Dell Rapids led by seven points with 1:30 to go in the first quarter, but Beresford closed out the quarter on a 4-0 run to cut the lead to three points at 13-10 after the first quarter of play.  Dell Rapids opened the second quarter on a 19-5 run to take a 32-15 lead with 3:30 to go in the first half.  Dell Rapids led 34-22 at halftime.

Beresford cut the Dell Rapids lead to seven points by the 4:00 mark of the third quarter at 35-26.  The Quarriers then went on a 12-4 run to close out the quarter to push their lead back to 17 points at 47-30 heading into the fourth quarter.  The Quarrier lead grew to 18 points at 50-32 with 5:26 to go in the game.  Beresford made one more run, outscoring Dell Rapids 14-4, but ran out of time as Dell Rapids took the ten-point win.

Arial Hoffman led the way for Dell Rapids with 15 points and eight rebounds.  Sydney Stofferahn finished with eight points and five rebounds.  Aspen Hansen, Ravyn Hoffman, Kaylee Hennen, and Jayda Knuppe all finished with seven points in the game.

Dell Rapids (6-1) will host McCook Central/Montrose on Friday, January 5th as a make-up game from December 21st.
