Quarriers Shake off 1st Half to Win Eighth Straight

Playing in their second game in less than 24 hours, the Dell Rapids Quarrier boys had a come-from-behind win over the St Thomas More Cavaliers at the DWU Culver’s Classic in Mitchell on Saturday, February 10th.  After trailing in each of the first three quarters, the Quarriers won 62-52.

The Cavaliers connected on nearly half of their three-point shots in the first half of the game.  St Thomas More led by nine points after the first quarter at 20-11.  The lead increased to 16 points, the largest of the game for the Cavaliers, with 3:53 to play in the second quarter.  Dell Rapids was able to cut the lead back down to nine points by halftime at 31-22.

The Quarriers started to make their run in the second half.  Dell Rapids cut the lead to five points by the end of the third quarter.  St Thomas More still led 46-41.  The Quarriers defense then held the Cavaliers to just six fourth-quarter points while scoring 21 to complete the come-from-behind win.

Mason Schmidt, named the game’s MVP, scored 18 points, had five rebounds, one assist, and one steal.  Carson Rentz had 15 points and four assists.  Logan Heim added 12 points and eight rebounds.  Jeffrey Schuch ended with nine points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots.  Drew Van Regenmorter and Elijah Story both had four points each.

Dell Rapids (14-4) will play in Canton on Monday, February 12 as part of a girls and boys double header against the Canton Hawks.

Quarrier Boys Win Seventh in a Row in OT

The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys picked up their seventh win in a row in an overtime thriller against the Dakota Valley Panthers on Friday, February 9th at Dakota Valley High School.  The Quarriers knocked off the #4 team in Class A by a score of 72-68.

The Quarriers got out to a quick start in the first quarter and led 21-16 by the first quarter break.  Dakota Valley then locked down the Quarrier offense in the second quarter.  The Panthers outscored Dell Rapids 22-8 to take a 38-29 lead into halftime.  The Quarriers flipped the script in the third quarter.  Dell Rapids outscored the Panthers 21-11 in the third quarter to hold a 50-49 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  The teams went back and forth throughout the fourth quarter.  Logan Heim hit the game-tying three-point shot with :28 to go in the game.  Each team had a chance to win the game at the end of regulation, but the fourth quarter ended with the two teams tied at 62-62.

With Dell Rapids leading 67-66 with less than a minute left in overtime, Carson Rentz knocked down a tough runner from the middle of the lane to give the Quarriers a 69-66 lead.  After a defensive stop and foul, Rentz made two free throws to push the lead to 71-66 with about :30 to go.  Dakota Valley knocked down a basket to get back within three points at 71-68.  Mason Schmidt was fouled with under :05 to play and made one of two free throws to push the lead to four points and seal the victory for Dell Rapids.

The Quarriers were led by Jeffrey Schuch, who had another double-double.  Schuch had 27 points, 19 rebounds, four assists, and four blocked shots.  Rentz had 15 points and eight assists.  Schmidt finished the game with 12 points and six rebounds.

Dell Rapids (13-4) will play at the DWU Classic in Mitchell on Saturday, February 10th.  The Quarriers will play St Thomas More at 1:00 p.m.

Streak Reaches Six for Quarrier Boys

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarriers earned a 65-33 road win over the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans at Mt Vernon on Tuesday, February 6th.  The won was the sixth win in a row for Dell Rapids.

Dell Rapids led by nine points at the end of the first quarter at 19-10.  The defense for the Quarriers held the Titans to just seven points in the second quarter, and Dell Rapids led by 20 points at 37-17 at halftime.  The lead grew by the end of third quarter to 27 points at 56-25.  The Titans only scored four points in the fourth quarter on the Quarrier defense as Dell Rapids cruised to victory.

The Quarriers finished shooting 56% from the field, 50% from three-point area, and 57% from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids had 37 team rebounds, 12 team assists, and turned the ball over 10 times.

Mason Schmidt finished with 19 points, two rebounds, and two assists.  Jeffrey Schuch had 13 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists.  Carson Rentz had 14 points and six assists.  Drew Van Regenmorter finished the game with eight points, and Eddie Price added seven points.

Dell Rapids (12-4) hits the road on Friday, February 9th when they play the Dakota Valley Panthers as part of a girls and boys double header at Dakota Valley High School.

Five in a Row for Quarrier Boys

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier won their fifth game in a row after a 77-55 victory over the Tri-Valley Mustangs.  The Quarriers also honored their seniors prior to the game on Friday, February 2nd at Dell Rapids High School.

Tri-Valley was able to get the first field goal of the game two minutes into it on a three-point shot by Dylan Huwe.  Dell Rapids was held scoreless until the 5:06 mark.  Mason Schmidt made one-of-two free throws to put the Quarriers on the board.  Schmidt gave Dell Rapids the lead on a three-point basket with 4:23 left in the first quarter.  Dell Rapids never trailed from that point in the game.  The Quarriers led 16-11 after the first quarter.  Dell Rapids extended their lead to 14 points by halftime at 39-25.  The Quarriers added to their lead in both third and fourth quarters.  Dell Rapids led 57-39 after the third quarter and then outscored Tri-Valley 20-16 in fourth quarter for the win.

Three players finished in double figures led by Jeffrey Schuch.  Schuch finished with a double-double scoring 19 points, pulling down 13 rebounds, and had four blocked shots .  Schmidt had 18 points.  Logan Heim tallied 11 points and had eight rebounds.  Carson Rentz and Elijah Story both had five assists in the game.

Dell Rapids (11-4) will travel to Mt Vernon to play the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans on Tuesday, February 6th as part of a girls and boys double header.

The 2017-2018 seniors are Carson Rentz, Ethan Faux, Elijah Story, Mason Schmidt, Jeffrey Schuch, and Caleb Kirschenmann.

Eddie! Eddie! Price Hits Game-Winner for Quarrier Boys

DRvsFlan_BBB_1-30-18With the shot clock and game clock winding down, Eddie Price hit a shot just beyond the free-throw line to give the Dell Rapids Quarriers a 53-51 win over the Flandreau Fliers on Tuesday, January 30th at Dell Rapids High School.

The Quarriers found themselves in a hole early in the ball game.  Mason Schmidt sunk a three-point shot from the right wing to start the game.  The Fliers, however, responded with 16-0 run and led 16-3 with 3:15 to go in the quarter.   Dell Rapids got the score to 18-11 with about a minute to play.  Flandreau then closed out the quarter on a 5-0 run and led 23-11.  The second quarter flipped for the two teams.  The Dell Rapids defense held Flandreau to just eight points while the offense scored 18 points.  Dell Rapids cut the lead to 31-29 by halftime.

Dell Rapids scored the first five points of the third quarter and regained the lead at 34-31 with 7:25 to go.  The Fliers responded with their own 5-0 run to go back in front 36-34.  The lead grew to 41-37 with 4:00 to go in the quarter.  The Quarriers ended the third quarter on an 8-2 run to lead 45-43 heading into the fourth quarter.  Neither team scored until Logan Heim made a right-handed layup with 5:45 remaining in the game.  Heim made another layup with 5:08 to go to give Dell Rapids their largest lead of the night at 49-43.  Nathan Cloud made a three-point shot with 4:34 to go to cut the lead to 49-46.  Jeffrey Schuch responded with a basket from the free-throw line with 4:18 to go giving Dell Rapids a 51-46 lead.  Connor LeBrun capped a 5-0 run with a three-point basket with 1:37 to go tie the game at 51-51.  After a Dell Rapids turnover, LeBrun missed a driving shot from the lane that was rebounded by Heim with about :36 to go.  The Quarriers held on to the ball to get as late of a shot as possible.  Carson Rentz took one dribble from the right wing to the elbow drawing a double team.  He threaded a beautiful pass to Price who was wide open just beyond the free-throw line.  Price took the wide-open shot and knocked it down as time expired on the shot clock and with :03.4 on the game clock.  After a series of timeouts, Dylan LeBrun launched a shot from just beyond half court that was no good for Flandreau.

Drew Van Regenmorter had a big game for Dell Rapids.  Van Regenmorter finished with 16 points to lead the team.  Schuch added 12 points, 16 rebounds and six blocked shots.  Rentz and Schmidt both had four assists each.

Dell Rapids (10-4) will host Tri-Valley as part of a girls and boys double-header on Friday, February 2nd.  Seniors will also be recognized at Senior Night between the girls and boys games.  Both games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Vermillion Can’t Keep Pace with Quarrier Boys

DRvsVerm_BBB_1-25-18The Dell Rapids Quarriers scored 15 points in the first 3:45 of the game and kept rolling from there in an 81-66 win over the Vermillion Tanagers on Thursday, January 25th at Dell Rapids High School.

Dell Rapids raced to a 10 point lead at 15-5 with 4:15 to go in the game.  Vermillion could not keep the lead under double digits much of game.  The Quarriers led 19-11 at the end of the first quarter, but pushed the lead over 10 points for good with 5:10 to go in the first half.  The Tanagers would not get any closer than 11 points from that point in the game.  Dell Rapids led 42-28 at halftime.  That lead grew to 20 points by the end of the third quarter at 65-45.  Dell Rapids got the lead to as many as 25 points at 78-53 with 3:47 to go in the game before Vermillion closed out the contest on an 13-3 run.

The Quarriers shot 56% from the field, 53% from three-point area, and 58% from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids had a total of 39 team rebounds, 23 team assists, and a total of 10 turnovers.

Two players finished with a double-double in the game, and four players finished in double figures in scoring.  Mason Schmidt led Dell Rapids with 28 points, three rebounds, and four assists.  Jeffrey Schuch had one of the double-doubles with 18 points and 10 rebounds.  He also had five blocked shots.  Logan Heim also had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.  Carson Rentz nearly had a double-double with 11 points and eight assists.  Eddie Price ended the game with six points and six rebounds.

Dell Rapids (8-4) will play Redfield/Doland at 2:15 p.m. in the Dak-12/NEC Classic in Madison on Saturday, January 27th.

Quarriers Earns Dak-12 Win over EPJ

The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys basketball team got another Dak-12 Conference win on Saturday, January 20th.  Dell  Rapids defeated the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies 73-59 at Elkton in the final game of a double header.

The Quarriers took an early lead  of eight points after the first quarter at 19-11.  Both teams scored 18 points each in the second quarter, and Dell Rapids continued to lead by eight points by a score of 37-29 at halftime.  Elk Point-Jefferson was able to cut the lead to seven by the end of the third quarter at 52-45, but Dell Rapids pulled away in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Huskies 21-14 for the win.

Dell Rapids shot 47% from the field in the game.  They were 41% from three-point area and 75% from the free-throw line.  They had a total of 39 team rebounds, 20 team assists, and only turned the ball over six times.

Four players finished in double-figures for the Quarriers in the game.  Carson Rentz had a team-high 20 points along with three assists.  Mason Schmidt added 19 points and five rebounds.  Jeffrey Schuch added another double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds along with four blocked shots.  Drew Van Regenmorter had 10 points and seven assists.  Logan Heim had six points, six rebounds, and five assists.

The Quarriers (7-4) will host Vermillion as part of a double header with the girls on Thursday, January 25th.  Both games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Madison Survives Quarrier Boys

DRvsMad_BBB_1-18-18The #1 Madison Bulldogs remained undefeated after grinding out a 67-60 win over the Dell Rapids Quarriers on Thursday, January 18th at Dell Rapids High School.  A fourth quarter comeback sealed the win for the Bulldogs.

The first 4:00 of the game were back-and-forth as Dell Rapids held a slim 8-7 lead.  Madison then went on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to go ahead 15-8.  The quarter ended with Madison leading 19-14.  The Bulldogs maintained about a six-point lead through the first half of the second quarter and then built that lead to 10 points at 30-20 with 2:30 to go in the first half.  Dell Rapids closed the half with a 9-2 run with made three-point baskets by Jeffrey Schuch, Drew Van Regenmorter, and Elijah Story.  Madison led 32-29 at halftime.

The Quarriers continued their run into the third quarter.  With 4:52 to go, Schuch made a three-point shot from the top of the key to give Dell Rapids a 38-36 lead.  The two teams were then tied at 38-38 and then again at 41-41 with 2:54 in the third quarter.  Dell Rapids grabbed the lead again and held it for the remainder of the quarter.  The Quarriers led 47-46 heading into the final quarter.  Madison again tied the game with 5:26 to go at 51-51 after a made three-point shot by Jadon Janke.  Dell Rapids went on a 5-1 run over the next minute.  The Quarriers held their largest lead of the game of four points at 56-52 with 4:14 to go after a made three-pointer by Logan Heim.  The Bulldogs went on a 5-0 run and regained the lead at 57-56 with 2:23 to go.  The lead grew to 60-56 with 1:32 left on the clock.  Dell Rapids was unable to get any closer than two points the remainder of the game as Madison made their free throws down the stretch to secure the victory.

Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 40% from the field.  They were 28% from the three-point area and 67% from the free-throw line, shooting only nine free throws in the game.  The Quarriers had 36 team rebounds and 14 team assists.

Schuch finished with a game-high 18 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots.  Carson Rentz had 11 points and six assists.  Mason Schmidt tallied 10 points, six rebounds, and three assists.  Van Regenmorter and Story both ended with seven points in the game.  Heim finished with five points and eight rebounds.

Dell Rapids (6-4) will travel to Elk Point to take on the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on Saturday, January 20th.  Big Sioux Media will have a video only stream of the double header with the girls.

Quarrier Defense Locks Down Garretson

The Dell Rapids Quarrier defense held Garretson to an average of nine points per quarter as Dell Rapids cruised to a 76-36 win over the Blue Dragons on Monday, January 15th at Dell Rapids High School.

Dell Rapids only gave up eight points in the first quarter and led 14-8 at the break.  The Quarriers outscored the Blue Dragons 21-12 in the second quarter, and Dell Rapids led 35-20 at halftime.  After allowing 14 points in the third quarter, the Quarriers held Garretson to just two points in the final quarter in the victory.

The offense for Dell Rapids continued to roll as the team shot 48% from the field in the game.  They finished 29% from three-point area and 84% from the free-throw line.  The Quarriers had 40 team rebounds, 19 team assists, and only turned the ball over six times.

Nine different players scored for Dell Rapids.  Jeffrey Schuch led the team with 19 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocked shots and three steals.  Carson Rentz added 16 points, eight assists, and three steals.  Mason Schmidt also finished in double digits with 11 points and four rebounds.  Elijah Story and Drew Van Regenmorter tallied eight points each.  Logan Heim pulled down nine rebounds, while Eddie Price had six rebounds.

The Quarriers (6-3) will host the #1 team in Class A boys basketball, the Madison Bulldogs, on Thursday, January 18th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Quarriers Scorches Nets in Redfield

DRvsGroton_BBB_1-13-18_1The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys basketball team lit up the scoreboard against the Groton Area Tigers at the Pheasant Shootout in Redfield on Saturday, January 13th.  The Quarriers defeated the Tigers 86-57.

Mason Schmidt electrified the Quarrier crowd early in the game.  Schmidt started the game with two straight dunks to give Dell Rapids an early 4-0 lead.  Schmidt was not done as he also knocked down four three-point shots and scored 18 points in the first quarter alone.  Dell Rapids rode the hot hand of Schmidt to a 27-13 first quarter lead. The Quarriers continued their hot shooting in the second and third quarters.  The Quarriers outscored Groton 20-11 in the second quarter to take a 47-24 lead into halftime.  Dell Rapids then added 28 more points in the third quarter and led 75-40 after the third quarter as their cruised to the victory.

Dell Rapids finished shooting 41% from the field.  They shot 39% from three-point area and also shot 71% from the free-throw line.  They had a total of 48 team rebounds, 27 team assists, and only turned the ball over six times.

DRvsGroton_BBB_1-13-18_3Schmidt finished with a game-high 32 points along with eight rebounds and two assists.  Carson Rentz added 18 points on six made three-point shots.  Rentz also dished out six assists.  Jeffrey Schuch had nine points, seven rebounds, and 10 assists.  Elijah Story had eight points, and Logan Heim had seven points and 13 rebounds.  Eddie Price added six points and six rebounds.

Dell Rapids (5-3) will host Garretson on Monday, January 15th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
