Dell Rapids/Baltic JV Baseball Wins in Bottom of 7th

Eric Klein’s sacrifice fly scored Zane Schumacher to lift Dell Rapids/Baltic JV to a 10-9 come from behind win 10-9 at Rickeman Field on Tuesday, May 7th.

DR/Baltic trailed 9-8 going into the bottom of the 7th inning. Casey Hansen, Schumacher and Nick Hoffman drew walks with one out. Hansen scored on a wild pitch and Klein ended the game with a fly ball to centerfield.

DR/Baltic nearly ended the game in the top of the 7th inning but a two-out error allowed Pipestone to score two runs and tie the game at nine. A double by Pipestone gave them a 9-8 lead which Dells erased in the last inning.

DR/Baltic took an early 2-0 first inning lead when Ted LaCoursiere tripled then scored on Joe Muston’s ground ball to short. Brett Mogen followed with a single to score Muston.

Pipestone answered with five runs in the second. Three consecutive bunt singles set the table. A walk, error and two singles supplied Pipestone with a 5-2 lead. Two pick-offs bythe  DR/Baltic defense stopped the Pipestone rally. DR/Baltic tied the game in the third. Muston singled, Riley Jurgensen walked and both scored on Hansen’s single. Beau Carpenter’s double in the sixth helped DR/Baltic take a temporary lead.

Mogen pitched the first four innings. He gave up five runs on six hits and three walks. He struck out seven. Schumacher earned the win with three innings of relief. He gave up four runs on three hits, two walks and struck out four.

Dell Rapids/Baltic JV is 3-3 on the season.

Dell Rapids/Baltic Baseball Picks Up Another Win

Dell Rapids/Baltic scored two runs in the first and held on to win 3-0 versus West Central at Humboldt May 2.

Tanner Solberg led off the game with a double and scored due to a throwing error on Spencer Kerzman’s sacrifice bunt. Matt Kolbeck doubled to the wall on the next pitch to score Kerzman and DR/Baltic led 2-0 four pitches into the game.

West Central tightened up its pitching and defense and only allowed two more hits in the game both in the fifth inning. DR/Baltic made the most of its opportunity when Joe Muston singled, stole second and scored on Solberg’s RBI single.

DR/Baltic was even stingier on defense. Cody Nielsen pitched the first five innings and allowed only one hit, a double by Joe Hanisch in the third. Nielsen struck out 10 and walked four. Mitch Roemen recorded the final six outs to earn a save. He walked one, struck out one and gave up no hits.

Dell Rapids/Baltic is 4-1 on the season. The final regular season games are scheduled for Wednesday, May 8 in Garretson and Friday, May 10 in Colton versus Tri-Valley.

JV Results

West Central scored four runs in the first on three hits, two errors, a walk and hit batter enroute to a 7-0 win over Dell Rapids/Baltic in a three-inning JV game.

Ryan Geraets singled and stole second for DR/Baltic’s only base runner in the game.

Riley Jurgensen took the pitching loss for DR/Baltic. Brett Mogen pitched in relief.

DR/Baltic JV (2-3) plays Pipestone JV on Tuesday, May 7 in Dell Rapids at 5:30 PM.

Dell Rapids/Baltic Baseball Splits a Pair of Weekend Games

Garretson piled on seven runs in the top of the 7th inning to break a 3-3 tie and defeat Dell Rapids/Baltic 10-3 Saturday, April 27.  Beau Carpenter and Tim Wilhelmsen each doubled for DR/Baltic. Tanner Solberg, Matt Kolbeck, Tim Wilhelmsen, Zane Schumacher and Joe Muston all had one single.  After six innings of solid pitching and defense three walks, a hit batsman, and two errors undid DR/Baltic in the final inning.  Starting pitcher Cody Nielsen worked 5 2/3 innings before Tanner Solberg got the final out in the sixth. Nielsen gave up four hits, three unearned runs and struck out eight. Solberg and Zane Schumacher pitched the seventh. It was the first loss of the season for DR/Baltic (2-1).

Dell Rapids/Baltic trailed 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the fourth before erupting for four runs on five hits on its way to a 6-1 win over West Central.  Tanner Solberg led the offense with two singles and three RBI. Ryan Geraets added two singles and scored twice. Matt Kolbeck doubled. Spencer Kerzman, Cody Nielsen, Joe Muston, Matthew Juba and Mitch Roemen each singled once.  Kerzman staked DR/Baltic to a 4-1 lead by allowing just three hits while striking out eight. Roemen closed out the final three innings allowing one hit with four strike outs to earn the save.  Dell Rapids/Baltic and West Central are both 3-1 on the season.

Ted LaCoursiere singled home two runs to help Dell Rapids/Baltic pull away late in the JV game. DR/Baltic won 4-1 and raised its record to 2-1.  Jurgensen and Eric Klein each singled and drove in a run. McKee added a single.  Mogen pitched the first four innings giving up no runs on three hits, one walk and seven strike outs. McKee struck out three in one inning of scoreless relief. Jurgensen closed out the game in the sixth giving up just one unearned run.

West Central broke out with three hits and three runs in the first inning and never looked back.  Nick Hoffman singled in the lone run for Dell Rapids/Baltic (2-2). Griffin Ellison, Ted LaCoursiere and Joe Muston each singled for DR/Baltic.  Muston took the pitching loss despite striking out four in three innings. Four defensive errors led to four unearned runs. Beau Carpenter pitched the final inning for DR/Baltic.

Dell Rapids/Baltic Baseball Defeats Lennox

Cody Nielsen struck out 12 in five innings and gave up only one hit to lead Dell Rapids/Baltic (2-0) to a 5-3 win over Lennox Friday, April 5.  Tim Wilhelmsen led the offense with three hits and two RBI. He also got the save in relief by pitching a scoreless 7th inning.  Matt Kolbeck, Nielsen, Mitch Roemen and Matt Juba all contributed a hit.  Dell Rapids/Baltic outhit Lennox seven to four. Max Jacobson and Jordan Harrington each had two hits for Lennox (0-1).

Dell Rapids/Baltic will play at Garretson Thursday, April 11.

Lennox JV 3, Dell Rapids/Baltic 2 (3 innings)

Lennox JV took advantage of two walks, two errors and a timely single all in the first inning to defeat Dell Rapids/Baltic JV 3-2 in three innings.  Ryan Geraets doubled and singled for Dell Rapids/Baltic. Eric Klein also singled. DR/B had the bases full with no outs but was unable to push the tying run across in the last inning.

Riley Jurgensen pitched the first inning and struck out three. Joe Muston came on in relief and struck out five in two innings.

Dell Rapids/Baltic Baseball Wins First Game of the Year

Dell Rapids/Baltic 16, Tri-Valley 1 (4 innings)

Dell Rapids/Baltic won its season opening high school baseball game 16-1 behind the pitching and hitting of senior Spencer Kerzman in four innings.  Kerzman pitched all four innings giving up only one single and one run while striking out eight.  He also led the offense with two singles, a double and four RBI.  Leadoff hitter Tanner Solberg added two singles and a double.  Cody Nielsen and Tim Wilhelmsen each hit a single and double and drove in three runs.

 

Dell Rapids/Baltic JV 3, Tri-Valley JV 0 (3 innings)

Ryan Geraets led the offense with two singles to give the junior varsity team a 3-0 win.  Brett Mogen pitched two innings, and Riley Jurgensen the final inning to combine for a 3-inning no-hitter.

 

The Dell Rapids/Baltic team is comprised of 23 players grades 8-12 from Dell Rapids Public, St. Mary and Baltic schools.

Dell Rapids/Baltic plays Lennox at home (Volunteer Field) at  5:30 PM Friday, April 5.
