Dell Rapids Baseball Playoff Updates

The Dell Rapids Legion and Dell Rapids 13/14 Teeners are currently in the middle of their respective region tournament runs this week.

Dell Rapids Legion earned a win over Tea 18-13 in Volga in their first game of the day yesterday. After a one game break, Madison defeated Dell Rapids 7-5 to advance to the semifinals. Dell Rapids will play again on Friday in Volga at 5:00 p.m. against the winner of the Garretson/Tea game.

The Dell Rapids 13/14 Teeners opened up their region tournament on Monday in Madison with a 9-1 win over the Madison 13s. They followed that game with a 13-0 win over the Madison 14s last night. Dell Rapids will play the winner of Volga/Madison 14s at 8:00 p.m. in the region championship game in Madison. If Dell Rapids loses, a second championship game will be played tomorrow.

Dells Legion Playing in Region 2B

DellsBaseballLogoThe Region 2B Legion baseball tournament will start on Tuesday, July 12th, in Volga.  Dell Rapids will play in the opening game against Tea at 3:00 p.m.  The second game of the opening day will feature Garretson against Volga at 5:30 p.m..  The third game of the day  will see Madison facing the winner of the Dell Rapids/Tea game at 8:00 p.m.

The tournament continues on Wednesday, July 13th at 5:00 p.m. with the first elimination game.  The winner’s bracket semifinal game will be held at 7:30 p.m on Wednesday.  After a break on Thursday, play resumes with two more games on Friday, July 15th.  The first game will be at 5:00 p.m. with the winner of game four playing the loser of game three.  The second game of the night at 7:30 p.m. will have the winner of game six play the loser of game five.

The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, July 16h, at 7:30 p.m. at 5:00 p.m., with a second game scheduled at 7:30 p.m. if necessary.

Dell Rapids Legion Opens Season with Win

DellsBaseballLogoThe Dell Rapids Legion baseball team opened its season with a win on Wednesday, June 1st, at home over Madison 7-2.

Dell Rapids scored right away in their half of the first inning for an early 1-0 lead.  Dell Rapids scored three more in the bottom of the third to push the lead to 4-0.  Madison scored their first run in the fourth, but Dell Rapids added three more runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Elijah Story earned the win by pitching five innings giving up one earned run on three hits while walking two and striking out one.  Josh Roemen pitched three innings of relief allowing just two hits and struck out five.  Dawson Kerzman also pitched an inning of relief giving up one earned run on one hit while walking three and striking out one.

Trey Randal, Brett Mogen, and Ryan Geraets all had three hits apiece.  Casey Hansen had two hits, and Roemen, Nate McKee, Kerzman, and Trevor Pulscher each had a hit.  Geraets drove in two runs for Dell Rapids, and Kerzman also had an RBI.

Dell Rapids will host Volga on Monday, June 6th.

Dell Rapids Baseball Finishes 4th at State

DellsBaseballLogoDell Rapids Baseball finished 4th at the State B Baseball championship round on Monday, May 30th, at the Birdcage in Sioux Falls.

Dell Rapids played a tough and exciting game to open up the games at 9:00 a.m.  The game went 13 innings, but Dell Rapids lost to the eventual state champs Winner/Colome Royals 4-3.  Dell Rapids scored a run in the second inning on a passed ball, and then scored again in top of the seventh on an RBI hit by Eric Klein, but Winner/Colome scratched across two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings.  Dell Rapids threatened to score in the 10th and 11th innings, and finally broke through with a two-out RBI single by Brett Mogen, but again the Royals tied the game in the bottom of the 12th, and then scored the game-winning run on a single to center in the bottom of the 13th.

Mogen started the game for Dell Rapids pitching seven innings giving up two runs, one earned,  on four hits while walking one and striking out 10.  Eddie Price took the loss pitching 5 1/3 innings.  Price gave up two earned runs without giving up a hit, but walked four batters while striking out five.

Mogen led the offense with four hits in the game and an RBI.  Josh Roemen added a double, and Klein had an RBI single.

Dell Rapids then played Dakota Valley in the 3rd/4th place game, but the offense could only string together three hits in the game.  Dakota Valley defeated Dell Rapids 5-2.  All the runs scored were in the first three innings.  Dakota Valley scored a run in the first, three more in the second, and one in the third while Dell Rapids picked up both of their runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Carter Gullickson, Trey Randel, and Mogen all had hits in the game.  Matt Gillogly and Gullickson drove in the two runs for Dell Rapids.  Trevor Pulscher started the game taking the loss.  Pulscher threw 4 1/3 innings giving up five runs, but only one earned, on six hits while walking five and striking out three.  Randel closed out the game throwing 2 2/3 innings giving up just one hit while walking two and striking out three.

Dell Rapids Baseball Heading Back to State Finals

Dell Rapids Baseball earned a trip back to the state final four after two super regional wins on Sunday, May 22nd, at Rickeman Field.

DRSuperRegional4Dell Rapids opened up the three-game super regional with a 7-0 win over Madison.  Dell Rapids scored three times in the first inning and added four more runs in the second inning for the win.  Brett Mogen pitched six innings of no-hit baseball for the win.  Eddie Price pitched a perfect seventh inning.  Mogen finished with 14 strikeouts.  Carter Gullickson had two hits in the game including a double and two RBI.  Bo Teveldal had a two-run home run in the first inning.  Matt Gillogly, Mogen, Eric Klein, and Mason Peter all collected hits for Dell Rapids.  Gillogly also had two RBI.

Dell Rapids concluded the day with a 10-8 win over Sioux Valley to advance to the state finals.  Sioux Valley had an early 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning, but Dell Rapids answered with three in DRSuperRegional1the bottom of the first for a 3-1 lead.  That lead was short-lived as Sioux Valley picked up four runs in the top of the second, and Sioux Valley lead 5-3 after two innings.  However, Dell Rapids scored three runs in the third, two runs in the fourth, and one run a piece in the fifth and sixth innings.  Sioux Valley rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth, but Price got the final four outs of the game for the save.

Trevor Pulscher earned the win for Dell Rapids pitching 3 2/3 innings in relief of Trey Randel.  Pulscher gave up three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out two.

Seven Dell Rapids’ hitters had hits against Sioux Valley.  Nate McKee had three hits, Gullickson, Gillogly, and Mogen each had two hits, and Josh Roemen, Teveldal, and Klein each had a hit.  McKee, Mogen, Klein, Roemen, Teveldal, Gillogly, and Casey Hansen all had an RBI in the game.

Dell Rapids Baseball Gets Post-Season Win

DellsBaseballLogoThe Dell Rapids baseball team earned an opening round playoff win over Oldham-Ramona-Rutland 11-0 in five innings on Sunday, May 15th, at Rickeman Field.  Trevor Pulscher pitched four innings of no-hit baseball while striking out seven batters.  Brett Mogen pitched the final inning and struck out all three hitters to complete the combined no-hitter.

Dell Rapids put up six runs in the first inning and added five more runs in the fourth inning for the win.  Ryan Geraets had two singles and three RBI. Matt Gillogly had two singles and two runs scored.  Carter Gullickson added a single, an RBI, and two runs.  Josh Roemen also had a single, RBI, and two runs scored.  Bo Teveldal also had two singles and an RBI.  Mogen and Nate McKee also scored runs for Dell Rapids.

Dell Rapids will host the Region 2 Super Regional at a date yet to be determined.  Three other teams will join Dell Rapids for the super regional, one more from the Region 2B South division and two teams from the Region 2B north division.  Those games have yet to be completed.

Dell Rapids Baseball Winning Streak Reaches Seven

DRvsGarretson_HSBaseball_5-8-16The Dell Rapids baseball team won their seventh game in a row and improved to 12-2 on the year after a 6-1 win over Garretson on Sunday, May 8th, at Rickeman Field in Dell Rapids.

Dell Rapids took the lead in the first inning after a lead-off triple by Josh Roemen and an RBI sacrifice fly by Carter Gullickson.  Dell Rapids scored two more times in the fourth inning.  Matt Gillogly hit a triple and scored on a throwing error, and Bo Teveldal scored on a wild pitch to give Dell Rapids a 3-0 lead after the fourth.  Garretson scored their lone run on an RBI ground out by Chayce Schleuter.  Dell Rapids scored two more times in the fifth inning and added another run in the sixth.

Brett Mogen pitched six innings for the win.  He gave up one run on five hits while walking one and striking out nine batters.  Eddie Price pitched the final inning striking out one batter.

Roemen finished the game 2-3 with two triples and two runs scored.  Gullickson was 1-3 at the plate with three RBI.  Gillogly was 1-3 with a triple, Mogen was 1-3 at the plate with a double, Teveldal finished 2-3 with a double, and Eric Klein was 1-2 with a double.

Dell Rapids will wrap up the regular season in Salem on Thursday, May 12th, against McCook Central.

Dell Rapids Baseball Now 10-2

DellsBaseballLogoThe Dell Rapids baseball team picked up two more wins over the weekend to improve to 10-2 on the year.  Dell Rapids defeated Madison 11-4 on Friday, April 29th, in Madison.  Dell Rapids then traveled to Volga on Sunday, May 1st, and beat Redfield 2-0.

Dell Rapids led start to finish against Madison, scoring four runs in the first three innings and then scoring five more in the fifth inning.  Eddie Price started the game on the mound throwing 2 2/3 innings giving up two runs, one earned, on one hit while walking three batters and striking out four.  Trevor Pluscher earned the win with 3 1/3 innings of relief.  He gave up one earned run on two hits while walking three and striking out two.  Josh Roemen had a triple, double, one RBI and scored a run.  Carter Gullickson had a double, two singles, an RBI, and scored three runs.  Matt Gillogly had and two hits, and Nate McKee, Bo Teveldal, Mason Peter and Eric Klein all collected hits for Dell Rapids.

Brett Mogen pitched Dell Rapids to the win on Sunday against Redfield.  He threw a complete game pitching all seven innings giving up just two hits while walking four and striking out 10 batters.  Roemen had a single and double for Dell Rapids.  Teveldal had two singles and an RBI.  Klein also picked up a single and scored a run.

Dell Rapids will travel to Flandreau to play Chester/Colman-Egan/Flandreau on Friday, May 6th.

Dell Rapids Baseball Gets Two More Wins

DellsBaseballLogoThe Dell Rapids baseball team picked up two wins in Clear Lake on Sunday, April 23rd.

Dell Rapids defeated Deuel-Castlewood-Hamlin (DCH) 7-0 behind a one-hit pitching performance by Brett Mogen.  Mogen pitched a complete game giving up one hit, a double in the seventh inning, along with one walk while striking out 13 batters.  Dell Rapids’ offense was led by Matt Gillogly with two doubles and a single.  Bo Teveldahl had a double with two RBI.  Josh Roemen had two doubles and two stolen bases.  Casey Hansen had a single and an RBI, and Nate McKee also had a single.

Dell Rapids then defeated Sioux Valley 5-1.  Dell Rapids scored two runs in the second inning, and then added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings on the way to the win.  Trevor Pulscher started the game pitching three innings of no-hit baseball while walking one and striking out three.  Roemen earned the win throwing four innings giving up a run on three hits and one walk while striking out three.  Gillogly had a double and single along with two stolen bases.  Teveldahl had two doubles, an RBI and a stolen base.  Hansen added a single and two RBI.

Dell Rapids improves to 8-2 on the year and will play in Madison on Friday, April 29th.

SF Christian Snaps Dells Baseball Streak

DellsBaseballLogoIn a battle of top teams in Class B Baseball, Sioux Falls Christian defeated Dell Rapid 3-1 at Rickeman Field on Thursday, April 21st.

Sioux Falls Christian scored three times in the third inning, and their defense made key plays throughout the game for the win.  Sioux Falls Christian threw out three Dell Rapids baserunners, including one at home in the fifth inning to end a Dell Rapids rally.

Trey Randel took the loss for Dell Rapids pitching six innings while giving up three runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts.  Spencer Koelwyn earned the win throwing five innings giving up one run on three hits while walking three and striking out eight batters.

Eric Klein led the Dell Rapids offense with two singles.  Carter Gullickson and Ryan Geraets each had a single.  Casey Hansen had the lone RBI for Dell Rapids.
