The Dell Rapids Quarriers Boys’ Golf team finished 3rd at the Charger Invite on Thursday at Bakker’s Crossing with a team score of 338. Sioux Falls Christian finished first as a team with a score of 325. Parkston was second with a 335. Individually for the Quarriers, Zach Schroeder finished 7th with a round of 81 and Ty Hoglund finished 12th with an 83. Head coach Mick Hoglund said, “Everyone battled the wind at Bakker. I was proud of the way we hung in there and competed.”
The Dell Rapids Quarriers boys golf team was at Dakota Valley, Wednesday, August 15, for a 12-team invitational and they knocked off 14 strokes from their first golf invite in Volga this past Monday. Coach Mick Hoglund told Big Sioux Media the team shot better, finishing in 2nd place behind Harrisburg. The top three teams were Harrisburg with a 303 (who by the way won Monday’s West Central Invitational), Dell Rapids with a 315, and 3rd place was Sioux Falls Christian with a 324. The medalist honors went to Harrisburg golfer Brooklyn DeVries with a 69. For the Quarriers: Ted LaCoursiere with a 75 (3rd place); Zach Schroeder with a 77 (6th place); Ty Hoglund with an 80 (12th place); Devon Weber with an 83; Adam Karst with an 87. The Quarriers Junior Varsity team finished 3rd overall. The next Invitational for Dells will be their own on Monday, August 20th, at Rocky Run.
The schedule said West Central in Hartford would be the location for the Dell Rapids Quarriers first golf match for the season, but strategy came into play when the chance for the Quarriers to play Meadow Creek Golf in Volga came into the picture. Meadow Creek Golf will host the regional golf meet later in the year, and this was an opportunity to play the course early and see some of the regional competitors as well. Big Sioux Media spoke to Coach Mick Hoglund about the play Monday afternoon and he said the team knows the “region is going to be very, very good” and the Quarriers have some work to do. Team scores had Aberdeen Roncalli finishing 1st with a 310; Sisseton was 2nd with a 314; Madison 3rd with a 317; and the Quarriers 4th with a 329. Other teams competing were Milbank and Sioux Valley.
Individually for Dells was Zach Schroeder with a score of 78 (6th place); Adam Karst with a 79 (9th place); Ted LaCoursiere an 85; Devon Weber with an 87; and Ty Hoglund with a 90. The next outing for the Quarriers will be Wednesday at Dakota Valley.
