The Dell Rapids Quarrier girls basketball team couldn’t overcome a cold start and dropped their season-opening game to the McCook Central/Montrose Cougars 63-48 on Tuesday, December 6th, in Salem. The Cougars never trailed in the game as they jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first five minutes of the game.
Dell Rapids trailed 12-3 after the first quarter and 27-16 by halftime. The Quarriers were able to chip the lead down to 39-32, but McCook Central/Montrose closed the game on a 24-16 run for the win.
Jayda Knuppe led the Quarriers with 13 points in the game. Emma Paul added 10 points and four rebounds. Averi Pankonen had four assists, and Kali Graham had four rebounds.
Dell Rapids will host Sioux Falls Christian on Tuesday, December 13th.
JV Results:
The Quarrier JV team won a convincing 41-25 contest over the Cougars. Jadya Knuppe sparked the girls with 12 points. Ravyn Hoffman had four steals, and Jenae Schoeberl and Sydney Stoffereahn both grabbed four rebounds.
C Team Results:
The Quarrier C team held on for a tight 20-18 win over McCook Central/Montrose. Gabi Rus led the way with six points, while Kyra Graham and Katie Steineke both chipped in four points.
