The Dell Rapids Quarrier boys basketball team won their season opener against the West Central Trojans on Friday, December 12th, in Dell Rapids. The Quarriers took an early lead to start the game and led 17-11 after the first quarter. West Central was able to cut into the lead by one point by halftime, but Dell Rapids still lead 31-26 at halftime.
Dell Rapids was able to maintain a four-to-seven point lead through most of the third quarter. By the end of the third quarter, the Quarriers had extended their lead to nine points to 46-37. The Quarriers were able to pull away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Trojans 14-9 to coast to a 14-point win at 60-46.
Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 34% (22-65) from the field. The shot 22% (4-18) from three-point area and just 52% (12-23) from the free-throw line. The Quarriers finished with 38 team rebounds, 12 assists, eight turnovers and eight steals.
Ty Hoglund finished the game with a game-high 25 points and also had six rebounds. Riley Schmidt added 11 points, seven rebounds, and two assists. Adam Karst finished the game with nine points. Ben Hammer had eight points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
Dell Rapids starts the season 1-0 on the year, and will travel to Tea to take on the Tea Area Titans on Friday, December 19th.
