December 16, 2020 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

The Tri-Valley Mustang girls and boys basketball teams hosted the Madison Bulldogs in a double-header on Tuesday, December 15th.

The girls won their second game of the year in convincing fashion by a 65-36 score over the Bulldogs.  Madison did hold the lead early in the game.  The Bulldogs led after the first quarter of play at 15-13, but the Mustangs responded in the second quarter.  Tri-Valley outscored Madison 24-6 for a 37-21 halftime lead.

The Mustang defense was extremely stingy in the third quarter.  Tri-Valley only allowed three points to Madison in the third quarter and built a 50-24 lead heading into the fourth.  The Mustangs also outscored Madison in the final quarter 15-12.

Three players finished in double figures.  Tabor Teel led the team with 22 points.  Blayne Gacke had 12 points, and Paige Jewett added 11 points.

The Tri-Valley boys team won their first game of the season.  The Mustangs led from start to finish in the game.  Tri-Valley jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter.  Madison cut into the lead in the second quarter, but it was only by two points.  Tri-Valley led 29-22 at the break.

The Mustangs were able to start pulling away in the third quarter.  They outscored the Bulldogs 16-8 for a 45-30 lead after three quarters.  Both teams scored 11 points in the final quarter, and Tri-Valley took the win by a final score of 56-41.

Nick Hass had a game-high 19 points for Tri-Valley.  Riley Haynes finished with eight points.

Both the Mustang girls team (2-1) and boys team (1-2) will travel to Chester for a double-header against the Chester Flyers on Friday, December 18th.
