The Canistota Hawks scored seven unanswered points in the final two minutes of the first quarter to propel themselves to a 54-32 win over the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls on Monday, February 9th. Canistota had a two point lead at 10-8 with 2:00 to go in the first before ending the quarter ahead 17-8. The Hawks extended that lead to 27-11 with 2:30 to go in the first half after a 10-3 run. Canistota led 33-16 at halftime. The Cardinals held Canistota to just six points in the third quarter, but could only close the gap to 39-25 at the end of the third quarter. Canistota then held St Mary to just seven points in the fourth quarter on their way to the win.
St Mary shot 25% (12-48) from the field, 0-6 from three-point area, and 44% (8-18) from the free-throw line. The Cardinals had 36 team rebounds and turned the ball over 23 times. Ally Mullaney had 18 points and 11 rebounds for St Mary. Lindsey Wolles tossed in eight points.
The Cardinals fall to 4-14 on the year. St Mary will travel to Colman on Friday, February 13th, to take on the Colman/Egan Hawks.
