The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks hosted the Corsica/Stickney Horned Frogs to open their 2022 amateur season on Friday, May 6th. The Gamecocks scored seven runs in the first three innings on their way to a 10-5 victory over the Horned Frogs.
Joe Hanisch put the Gamecocks on the board with an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning. Brandon McKnight followed with a two-run double to give Humboldt/Hartford a 3-0 lead. The Gamecocks added two more runs in the bottom of the second on a two-run single by Luke Wodahl.
Corsica/Stickney got a lone run in the top of the third, but the Gamecocks scored two more in the bottom of the third. Zach Treiber had an RBI sacrifice fly, and McKnight scored on a wild pitch. The Gamecocks led 7-1 after three innings.
After the Horned Frogs scored a run in the top of the fourth, the score remained 7-2 until the seventh inning. Corsica/Stickney added another run in their half of the seventh. The Gamecocks answered with an RBI groundout by Wodahl in the bottom of the inning. The Horned Frogs then scored two times in the top of the eight, but again, Humboldt/Hartford responded with two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run single by Broc Haldeman. The Horned Frogs were scoreless in the ninth inning.
McKnight had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Haldeman had two singles and two RBIs. Hanisch had two hits as well, one a double, and an RBI. Wodahl finished with a hit and three RBIs. Chad Morrison, Adam Hentges, Seth Cavanaugh, and Clayton Hanisch all had hits. Treiber had an RBI.
Micah Warrington pitched three innings allowing an unearned run on two hits. Cole Barthel also pitched three innings allowing an unearned run on three hits and a walk with three strikeouts. McKnight pitched an inning giving up an earned run on a hit and two walks with two strikeouts. Treiber pitched two innings allowing two unearned runs on a hit and three walks with three strikeouts.
