De Smet Volleyball Falls in Close Match to Cyclones

The De Smet Bulldog volleyball team had a road match against the Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones on Tuesday, October 1st.  The Cyclones won in straight sets, but all three sets were close with scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21.

After an early 2-2 tie to start the first sets, De Smet took the lead 4-3.  Clark/Willow Lake answered and pulled in front 8-6.  The Bulldogs went on a 5-2 run to go back in front 11-10, and then they extended the lead to 15-12.  The Cyclones rallied to tie the score 18-18.  They then went on a 4-1 run for a 22-19 lead before winning 25-20.

The Cyclones started the second set with a slim 3-2 lead, but it quickly grew to double digits.  Clark/Willow Lake went ahead 14-4 early.  They continued to lead by eight points, 19-11, but the Bulldogs then started to rally.  De Smet cut the lead to four points, 20-16, and then had it down to three, 24-21, before Clark/Willow Lake stopped the run for the 25-21 win.

The third set started with the Cyclones leading 2-0.  They kept that two-point lead all the way to 12-10.  Clark/Willow Lake then went on a 5-2 spurt for a 17-12 advantage.  The Bulldogs again rallied getting the lead down to two points, 21-19.  Clark/Willow Lake, however, closed out the match on a 4-2 run for the 25-21 win.
