Rally by De Smet Girls Stopped by Howard

The De Smet Bulldog girls basketball team cut a nine-point deficit down to two points, but a big run in the fourth quarter gave the Howard Tigers a 54-40 win on Tuesday, January 9th.

The offense struggled a little in the first quarter for the Bulldogs.  Howard built an 11-4 lead at the first quarter break.  The Tigers extended their lead to 24-15 at halftime.  The Bulldogs rallied in the third quarter and pulled within two points, 33-31, going into the fourth quarter.  Howard had a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to help secure the victory.

De Smet shot 29% (16-55) overall in the game, 12% (3-26) from three-point area, and 45% (5-11) from the free-throw line.  The Tigers finished the game shooting 36% (21-59) overall, 25% (6-24) on three-point attempts, and 60% (6-10) from the free-throw line.

Hazel Luethmers finished with 20 points, five rebounds, and two steals.  Mirra Beck had nine points and four rebounds.  Brooke Jennings added five points and six rebounds.
