The De Smet Bulldog volleyball team took second place at the 45th Annual Lake Preston Invitational on Saturday, September 21st.
In the opening round, the Bulldogs and Flandreau Fliers went three sets. Flandreau took the first sest 25-16. De Smet then won the next two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-16 to advance to the semifinal round. Hazel Luethmers had 17 kills and five blocks. Megan Dylla finished with 26 set assists. Brooke Jennings added eight kills, and Mirra Beck had 15 digs.
The Bulldogs then met Arlington in the semifinals. De Smet used the momentum from the first match in the second match and beat the Cardinals in straight sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-20. Luethmers had 11 kills and four blocks. Dylla had 19 set assists. Ivey Schoenfelder added six kills, and Aubree Blue had eight digs.
De Smet would then face the Sioux Valley Cossacks in the championship match. Sioux Valley, however, would win in straight sets by scores of 25-22 and 25-20. Schoenfelder finished with six kills and a block. Luethmer added five kills and five ace serves. Dylla had 11 set assists, and Blue finished with 10 digs.
