De Smet Girls End Regular Season with Win

The De Smet Bulldog girls ended their 2023-2024 regular season with a 44-42 win over the Canistota Hawks on Monday, February 12th.  The win also ended a six-game losing streak.

The Hawks took a one-point lead, 10-9, into the second quarter after a back and forth opening quarter.  After a 19-19 tie late in the second quarter, the Hawks hit a three-point shot right before halftime for a 22-19 lead.  Canistota extended their lead to 31-23 early in the third quarter.  The Bulldogs closed the gap and trailed 35-30 going into the fourth quarter.

De Smet went on a 6-0 run to start the fourth quarter and took a 36-35 lead.  The game was tied 39-39 with 3:00 to go in the game.  The Bulldogs went ahead 43-39 over the next couple of minutes.  A made three-point shot by the Hawks with :55 to go cut the lead to 43-42.  Brooke Jennings was fouled on a rebound attempt with :05 remaining sending her to the free-throw line.  Jennings made one of two free throws to make the score 44-42.  Canistota would throw a pass out of bounds trying to move the ball up the court which led to De Smet being able to run out the remaining time after an inbounds pass.

Hazel Luethmers had 20 points, nine rebounds, and two steals.  Aubree Blue finished with nine points, four rebounds, and two assists.  Audi Currier ended with five points.  Brooke Jennings tallied four points, six rebounds, and two assists.  Megan Dylla had two points and four steals.
