Bulldog Girls Winning Streak Stopped at Three

The De Smet Bulldog girls basketball team took a three-game winning streak into Dell Rapids St Mary High School on Monday, December 18th.  The Cardinals snapped the winning streak with a 46-35 win over the Bulldogs.

Shooting struggles plagued the Bulldogs all night.  De Smet shot just 23% (11-48) overall from the field, 30% (6-20) on three-point attempts, and 50% (7-14) from the free-throw line.  The Cardinals, meanwhile, shot 33% (18-54) overall, 29% (4-14) from three-point area, and 40% (6-15) from the free-throw line.

The two teams finished the first quarter tied 12-12.  St Mary took a small, two-point advantage into halftime, 24-22.  The Cardinals outscored De Smet 8-5 in the third quarter for a 32-27 lead going into the fourth quarter.  St Mary was able to maintain their lead the entire quarter and extended their lead late in the game from the free-throw line.

Hazel Luethmers had 25 points, six rebounds, and seven steals in the game.  Alyssa Asleson had eight points, five rebounds, and four assists.  Mirra Beck was the only other play to score, getting two points with four rebounds and two steals.  Brooke Jennings had six rebounds.
