The De Smet Bulldog volleyball team had their first home match of the season on Tuesday, August 29th. The Bulldogs hosted the Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds. The Warbirds spoiled the home opener with a straight set win by scores of 25-17, 25-15, and 25-18.
The start of the match was back and forth. Neither team was able to get much of an advantage through the first half of the opening set. After a 12-12 tie, the Warbirds finally got some separation and went on a 7-1 run for a 19-13 lead. That advantage was enough for them to take the first set 25-17.
De Smet started the second set on a 4-1 run, but Wolsey-Wessington responded with a 9-1 run of their own for a 10-5 lead. They pushed that lead to 21-12 before winning the set 25-15. A quick start by the Warbirds in the third set put them in a great position. They were leading 7-3 and then went on a 5-0 run to go ahead 12-3. The Bulldogs tried to get back into the set. They got within three points, 17-14, but the Warbirds stopped the rally and won 25-18.
