Bulldog Girls Win Final Regular Season Game

The De Smet Bulldogs won their last regular season game of the year 66-42 over the Canistota Hawks on Monday, February 13th.  The Bulldogs had all three seniors start, Jada Burke, Cori Birkel, and injured Emma Albrecht.

The Bulldogs trailed 12-8 with 1:19 to play in the opening quarter, but went on a 9-2 run for a 17-14 lead by the quarter break.  The first half came to an end with the game tied 26-26.  De Smet started the second half on an 18-5 run to lead 44-31 with 3:00 to play in third quarter.  The Hawks finished the quarter scoring the final four points to cut the lead to 44-35 going into the fourth quarter.  The Bulldogs had a big fourth quarter outscoring Canistota 22-11.

De Smet shot 49% (28-57) overall in the game and 38% (6-16) from three-point area.  Canistota finished the game shooting 29% (16-57) overall and just 18% (3-17) on three-point attempts.

Burke finished with 26 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals.  Alyssa Asleson had 13 points, three rebounds, and four assists.  Birkel added 12 points, eight rebounds, and three assists.  Mirra Beck had eight points, seven rebounds, two assists, and three steals.  Hazel Luethmers ended with seven points and 11 rebounds.

De Smet finishes the 2022-2023 regular season with a 9-11 record.
