August 16, 2021 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

After losing three state qualifiers to graduation, the Dell Rapids Quarrier boys golf team started their 2021 season at the West Central Early Bird Invitational at Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford on Monday, August 16th.  This year’s team is guided by new head coach Riley Duncanson.

“With our young team, a lot of players will be on varsity for the first time, and I am excited for these young kids to get playing time.  Since it is my first year, I am excited to start coaching in Dell Rapids and looking forward to the start of the year,” said Duncanson.

The Quarriers finished with a team score of 469 on the day.  Vermillion placed first as a team with 329 with West Central finishing second also with a 329.  The tie was broken using the fifth golfer’s score.  Tea Area was third at 333.

Carter Traill finished the day with a 106.  Gage Schultz and Ryder Van Zee both had a round of 119.  Tyler Tjaden finished at 130, and Owen Swaney had a round of 136.
