Mustang Wrestling Has Five Returning with State Experience

November 30, 2021 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

The Tri-Valley Mustang wrestling team returns three state qualifiers from a year ago to the 2021-2022 team.  Two other wrestlers have also previously qualified for the state tournament giving the Mustangs five athletes with state experience.

Tri-Valley had six wrestlers qualify for the state tournament last year, and one of those placed eighth.  The five wrestlers who have state experience are juniors Lawson Loiseau and Mason Hendrixson, sophomore Isaac Nehlich, and eighth-graders Landyn Reiser and Brody Dybvig.  The Mustangs are also looking to senior Zach Powell, sophomore Everett Althoff and seventh-graders Cole Hendrixson and Treyson Richter to make an impact this season.

“With 24 wrestlers on the mat this season and a handful of good young prospects, we are looking to battle hard and qualify eight-plus wrestlers to the state tournament with a top 15 finish,” said head coach Mike Gibson.

Tri-Valley’s season will start on Saturday, December 4th at the “Top of the Rock” tournament in Dell Rapids.

Mustang Boys Open Season at Home

November 29, 2021 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

The 2021-2022 season for the Tri-Valley Mustang boys basketball team will begin with a home game against Garretson on Friday, December 10th.  The Mustangs will look to improve on a 10-11 record from last season.

Head coach Brandon Feterl said, “We had some big wins and had a team that fought hard every night,” when talking about last year’s team.

This year’s team will return nine key members after the departure of seven seniors and the top four scorers from last season’s team.  The Mustangs will be led by Lance DeWitt, Noah Haynes, Owen Besmer, Connor Christensen, Cory McDonald, Braden Oyen, Isaac McFarland, Cole Focken, and Riley Carlson.

“We have some older guys who I think are ready for a bigger role.  I’m excited to see what this team can do defensively if they’re able to stay focused every possession.  It will be fun to see them grow as a group,” said Feterl.

The first game will be broadcast on Big Sioux Media with a tip-off of approximately 8:00 p.m. after the girls game.
