Elks Beat Cardinal Volleyball in Three Games

DRSM LogoThe Elkton-Lake Benton Elks defeated the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team by scores of 25-10, 25-22, 25-6 on Thursday, September 24th, at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.

Kayla Scherff led the Cardinals with seven attacks on the night.  Jackie Wolles added five, and Kennedi Mullaney had three.  The Elks were led by Rachel Hegerfeld with eight attacks.  Delsie Wiese finished with seven.

Cassey Geraets had 14 set assists for St Mary.  Elkton-Lake Benton was led by Bobbi Huber with 26.  Haley Michel led the defense for the Cardinals with seven digs.  Adyn Heinricy had five digs, and Rhiannon Glazier finished with three digs in the match.  The Elks were led by Abby Landsman with nine digs.

The Cardinals will travel to Elkton on Saturday, September 26th, to play in the Don Magnus Volleyball Tournament.

Dell Rapids Cross Country Invite Results

Both the Dell Rapids Quarrier and Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal cross country teams ran in the Dell Rapids Invite at Rocky Run Golf Course on Wednesday, September 23rd.

The Cardinal girls finished third with 47 points.  The Quarrier girls finished fourth with 48 points.  Flandreau won the girls varsity team title with 20 points.  Garretson finished second with 27 points.

The Quarrier boys finished third with 53 points.  Flandreau Indian finished first with 31 points.  Flandreau was second with 34 points.  Elkton-Lake Benton placed fourth with 72 points.

Quarrier Volleyball Evens Record with Win

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier volleyball improved their record to 5-5 with a win over the Garretson Blue Dragons 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-22 on Tuesday, September 22nd, in Dell Rapids.

Mikaela Stofferahn led the offense with 11 points, 13 kills, and three blocks.  Emma Paul added 11 kills.  Chloe Solberg finished the night with 31 set assists.  Hannah Welbig anchored the defense with 21 digs on the night.

Head coach Dale Solberg said, “We came out flat, but bounced back nicely because of a total team effort.  We are still developing our depth and taking a look at different lineups.  It is nice to see everyone contribute one way or another.”

The Quarriers travel to Flandreau on Thursday, September 24th, and then will play in the SF Pentagon Classic on Saturday, September 26th.

JV Results

In the JV match, the Quarriers posted a 25-9 and 25-19 win against the Blue Dragons.   Leaders on the night included Trinity Gordon (four kills, 10 digs, and five points), Brooke Klein (five digs and 10 points), and Arial Hoffman (six points and three kills).  Tiffanie Dorale finished with seven set assists.

Hoglund 1st, Quarriers 6th at Dak-12 Boys Golf Meet

NewDRLogoTy Hoglund placed first individually, and the Dell Rapids Quarriers placed sixth as a team at the Dak-12 Conference Boys Golf Tournament held at Dell Rapids Rocky Run Golf Course on Monday, September 21st.

Dell Rapids finished with a team score of 352.  Dakota Valley placed first with a team score of 345.  Madison place second also with a score of 345, and Canton was third with a 345.  Sioux Falls Christian finished fourth with 346, and Elk Point-Jefferson placed fifth with a score of 350.

Hoglund finished with a round of 76 to place first by five strokes.  Mason Schmidt, Brent Eddy, and Jace Blair all had rounds of 92.  Jordan Kerns finished with a round of 78.

The Quarries will play in the Region 1A Tournament in Milbank on Monday, September 28th.

Brookings Cheer and Dance Results

The Dell Rapids Quarrier and Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal Competitive Cheer teams participated in the Brookings event on Saturday, September 19th.

The Quarriers placed 11th overall in the cheer competition with a score of 194.50.  Dell Rapids St Mary placed 17th overall with a score of 154.00.  Dell Rapids, however, placed second among the Class A schools.  Sioux Falls Roosevelt placed first overall with a score of 269.50.  Brandon Valley was second with a score of 238.00, and Sioux Falls O’Gorman placed third with a score of 232.00.  Sioux Valley had the best score of the Class A schools with a score of 199.00.

Tea Area Spoils Homecoming for Quarrier Football

DellRapidsFootballLogoThe Tea Area Titans spoiled Homecoming for the Dell Rapids Quarrier football team.  The Titans earned a 14-6 win over the Quarriers on Friday, September 18th, at Dell Rapids High School.

Tea scored first in the second quarter on a five-yard touchdown run by Kendon Rensch.  Rensch scored again for the Titans in the third quarter on a one-yard run to put Tea ahead 14-0.  The Quarriers got on the board in the fourth quarter on a three-yard touchdown run by Sam White, but wasn’t enough to earn the victory.

Dell Rapids was limited to just 125 total yards of offense, 83 passing yards and 42 rushing yards.  The Quarries finished 4-15 on third-down conversions.

Hunter Hansen finished 6-12 passing for 83 yards.  Jeffery Schuch had three catches for 43 yards.  White had a catch for 19 yards.  Mason Peter also had a catch for 12 yards.  White carried the ball five times for 16 yards and a touchdown.  Tanner Heim had two carries for 16 yards.  Hansen had 18 carries for 15 yards.  Ross Wiebenga anchored the defense with eight tackles.  Nate McKee and Heim each had six tackles.  Heim also had an interception.

Dell Rapids falls to 1-3 on the year.  The Quarries will travel to Hartford to play West Cental on Friday, September 25th.

Cardinal Football Pitches Shutout in Homecoming Win

DRSMvsCastlewood_FB_9-18-15The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal football team forced five turnovers on their way to a 24-0 Homecoming win over the Castlewood/Estelline Warriors on Friday, September 18th, in Dell Rapids.

Neither team scored in the first quarter.  The first touchdown of the game came with 7:20 to go in the second quarter when Josh Brown scored on a one-yard run.  J. Brown also scored the two-point conversion to give St Mary an 8-0 lead at halftime.  The Warriors had the ball to begin the third quarter and kept the ball for over seven minutes on their opening drive of the second half.  The Cardinals held defensively keeping the Warriors off the board.  J. Brown picked up another touchdown with 10:50 to go in the game on a five-yard run.  Casey Hansen found Logan Gaspar in the end zone for the two-point conversion.  J. Brown scored again with 5:10 in the game giving St Mary a 24-0 lead.

St Mary finished with 288 yards of total offense, 228 rushing yards and 60 passing yards.  J. Brown had 20 carries for 138 yards and three touchdowns.  Hansen was 4-10 passing for 60 yards and one interception.  Jacob Glazier had a catch for 20 yards.  Evan Brown had a catch for 26 yards, and Gaspar had a catch for 13 yards.  The Cardinals defense was led by Dalton Houska with 11.5 tackles, one fumble recovery, and one interception.  Garret Frost finished with 11.5 tackles.  Hansen had eight tackles.  Sam Schwebach had six tackles and two fumble recoveries.

The Cardinals improve to 3-1 on the year.  St Mary will travel to Lake Preston on Friday to take on Arlington/Lake Preston on Friday, September 25th.  The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Tri-Valley Rallies Past Quarrier Volleyball

NewDRLogoAfter losing the first game, the Tri-Valley Mustangs went on to win the next three and beat the Dell Rapids Quarrires in volleyball action on Thursday, September 17th, at Tri-Valley.  Final scores were 22-25, 25-15, 25-9, 25-19.

Mikaela and Sydney Stofferahn led the attacking for Dell Rapids with six and four kills respectively.  Chloe Solberg tallied 25 assists in the match.  Hannah Welbig led the defense with 19 digs.  Trinity Gordon and Brooke Klein each had nine digs.  S. Stofferahn added four blocks.  Mara Adams had 11 points from the service line.  Kia Schumacher had five points, including one ace.

The Quarriers fall to 4-5 on the year.  Dell Rapids will host Garretson on Tuesday, September 22nd.

Cardinal Volleyball Drops Match to Colman-Egan

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal volleyball team lost their match to the Colman-Egan Hawks on Thursday, September 17th, in straight games by scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-14.

Kennedi Mullaney and Jackie Wolles each had five kills in the match for the Cardinals.  Cassy Geraets had six assists.  Kayla Scherff finished with five digs.  Haley Michel and Wolles each had four digs, and Adyn Heinriy and Geraets each had three digs.

The Cardinals record now drops to 0-9.  St Mary will travel to Flandreau to play at the Flandreau Indian School on Tuesday, September 22nd.

Girls 5th, Boys 7th for Quarrier Cross Country at SFC Invite

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier boys and girls cross country teams participated in the SF Charger Invite at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls on Thursday, September 17th.  The Quarrier girls finished fifth as a team with 88 points.  Beresford won the event with 20 points.  Sioux Falls Christian was second with 37 points, Canton placed third with 61, and Madison finished fourth with 64.

The Quarrier boys placed finished seventh as a team with 133.  West Central won the boys title with 25 points.  Sioux Falls Christian was second with 29, Madison third with 69, Beresford fourth with 79, and Western Christian was fifth with 88 points.
