Cardinal Golf at Chester Invite

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys golf team participated in the Chester Golf Invite at the Lakes Golf Course on Tuesday, April 18th.  Lane Reecy had the low round for the Cardinals at 94.  Jacob Saude finished the 18-hole tournament with a 100.  Garret Frost and Brandon Kubly both finished with a 117.  Luke Reecy finished with a 133, and Tyler Munkvold had a round of 136.

The Cardinals will be in Flandreau for the Flandreau Invite on Thursday, April 20th.

Four Straight for Dells Baseball

DellsBaseballLogoDell Rapids picked up their fourth straight win on Monday, April 17th, after an 11-0 victory in Baltic.

Dell Rapids scored in the top of the second inning after an RBI groundout by Keegan Miller to score Nate McKee.  Dell Rapids led 1-0 after the second inning.  Dell Rapids then scored four times in the top of the third inning.  Carter Gullickson had an RBI walk, McKee was hit by a pitch to score another run, Josh Roemen scored on a passed ball, and Miller had an RBI single.  Dell Rapids added six runs in the top of the sixth on hits by Roemen and JD Holm.

Adrian Juba, Elijah Story, Roemen, Holm, Gullickson, and Miller all had hits in the game.  Roemen and Miller had two RBIs each.  Holm, McKee, and Gullickson each had an RBI.  Trevor Pulscher started the game on the mound pitching three innings giving up three hits while walking one and striking out one.  Gullickson pitched the final three innings giving up two hits while walking one and striking out five.

Dell Rapids (5-3) will host Sioux Falls Roosevelt on Tuesday, April 18th, at 5:30 p.m. at Rickeman Field.

Dell Rapids Baseball Wins Third Straight

DellsvsDHC_4-13-17_1The Dell Rapids baseball team won their third straight game, and fourth out of their last five, after beating Deuel/Hamlin/Castlewood 7-3 at Rickeman Field on Thursday, April 13th.

Dell Rapids scored first in the bottom of the first inning when Austin Ellingson scored on an RBI groundout by Nate McKee to take a 1-0 lead.  D/H/C picked up two runs in the top of the seconding inning on an RBI single and throwing error to take a short-lived 2-1 lead.  Dell Rapids tied the game on back-to-back hits to start the bottom of the second.  Keegan Miller started the inning with a lead-off triple and then scored on a single by Seth Anderson.  Anderson scored later in the inning on an RBI single by Josh Roemen, and Dell Rapids regained the lead 3-2 after the second inning.  Neither team scored until the top of the fifth when D/H/C tied the game on an RBI fielder’s choice.  Dell Rapids would take the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Roemen scored on an RBI single by Gullickson.  Nate McKee drove home Brandon Geraets and Gullickson on a triple to put Dell Rapids ahead 6-3.  Dell Rapids got one more run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by McKee.

Gullickson picked up three hits and an RBI in the game.  McKee had two hits, including a triple, along with four RBI.  Roemen had a hit and RBI, Miller had a triple, and Anderson had a hit and RBI.  Trevor Pulscher started the game on the mound pitching four innings giving up two runs, one earned, on five hits with one walk and four strikeouts.  Elijah Story picked up the winning in relief pitching three innings giving up one unearned run on three hits while striking out five batters.

Dell Rapids (4-3) will travel to Baltic on Monday, April 17th, at 5:30 p.m.

Quarrier Girls 2nd, Cardinal Boys 3rd at Garretson Early Bird Golf Tourney

GenericGolfThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls golf team placed second at a team at the Garretson Early Bird golf tournament on Tuesday, April 11th, in Garreston.  The Quarriers had a team total of 158.  Flandreau won the girls title with a total of 153.  Garreston was third with 165, Sioux Valley fourth with 179, and Chester fifth with 195.  The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal boys golf team placed third as a team with a 158.  Garretson won the boys title with a 129.  Chester was second with 138, and Flandreau tied St Mary for third with 158.

Kaitlyn Greenhoff (DR) won the girls individual title with a round of 48, and Rose Habager placed fourth with a round of 51.  Grace Johanson from Flandreau was second with a 49, and Destiny Nelson of Flandreau was third with a 50.  Grace Tischer, Mallory Haak, and Sydney Emery all had rounds of 59 for the Quarriers.  Olivia Downs shot a 63, and Stephanie Dennis had a round of 67.

Jacob Saude had the low round for the St Mary Cardinal boys golf team with a a 48 which was good for seventh place.  Brandon Cook finished with a 54.  Brandon Kubly had a 56, Payton Park had a 58, Luke Reecy shot a 59, Tyler Munkvold had a 60, and Jason Cook finished with a round of 86.

The Quarrier girls will host a triangular with West Central and Pipestone at Rocky Run Golf Course on Tuesday, April 18th.  The Cardinal boys will be at the Chester Invite on Tuesday, April 18th.

Quarrier Boys Track Win, Girls 3rd in Volga

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier boys team captured the team title at the Brace-Hopfinger Relays in Volga on Tuesday, April 11th.  The Quarriers finished 191.5 points, nearly 100 points better than Castlewood.  Castlewood placed second with 99 points.  Sioux Valley was third with 96 points.  The Quarrier girls team placed third with 96 points.  Hamlin and Deubrook Area tied for first with 122 points.

Dell Rapids will travel to Beresford for the BAH Invite next Tuesday, April 18th.

Cardinal Girls Track Places 2nd at Chester, Boys 6th

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls and boys track teams competed in the Chester Booster Invitational Track Meet on Tuesday, April 11th, in Chester.  The Cardinal girls team finished second with 94 team points.  Chester Area won the girls title with 122 points.  Lake Preston was third with 90 points.  The Cardinal boys finished sixth with 63 points.  Chester Area also won the boys title scoring 157 points.  Baltic was second with 112 points, and Lake Preston was third with 73 points.

St Mary will be back in Chester on April 22nd for the Tom Main track meet.

Dell Rapids Baseball Wins Two in Madison

DellsBaseball_4-9-17_1The Dell Rapids baseball team evened their season record after earning two wins in Madison against the Bulldogs on Sunday, April 9th.

After giving up the first run of the game, Dell Rapids scored seven runs in the second inning of the first game with the big hit being a grand slam by Matt Gillogly.  Dell Rapids added another run in the third and then three more in the top of the fifth to end the game on the 10-run rule.

Carter Gullickson had three hits, including a double, along with three RBIs.  Josh Roemen had two hits, and Nate McKee, Seth Anderson, and Gillogly all had a hit.  Gillogly had five RBIs.  Trevor Pulscher pitched all five innings giving up one run, which was unearned, on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Pulscher hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning in the second game to give Dell Rapids the double-header sweep.  Neither team scored through the first four innings, but Dell Rapids was able to scratch across a run on a sacrifice fly by Gullickson to score Roemen.  Madison answered with four runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead.  Dell Rapids answered scoring three times in the top of the sixth inning.  Anderson scored on an error, and Brandon Geraets and Roemen scored on a double by Gullickson.  Pulscher hit the game-winning home run after Elijah Story and Anderson reached to start the eighth inning.

Roemen had two hits in the second game.  Story, Gillogly, Gullickson and Pulscher all had a hit as well.  Gullickson and Pulscher each had three RBIs.  Roemen pitched the first five innings giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts.  Story picked up the win pitching three innings giving up no runs on no hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Both Quarrier Track Teams Finish Top 5 at Tri-Valley

NewDRLogoBoth the Dell Rapids Quarrier girls and boys track teams finished in the top five of the team standings at the 2017 Tri-Valley Booster Invitational Track Meet at Tri-Valley High School on Thursday, April 6th.  The girls finished fourth with a total of 89 points.  West Central was first with 129 points, followed by Sioux Falls Christian with 117 points, and Mt Vernon/Plankinton with 94 points.  The boys team finished second with 128.5 points.  Sioux Falls Christian was first with 168 points.

The Quarriers will be at the Vince Relays in Elkton on Saturday, April 8th.

St Mary Track Record Broken in Flandreau

DRSM LogoEighth grader Ella Heinitz broke a Dell Rapids St Mary High School track record with a 400m dash time of 1:02.65 at the Barnes Evans Relays track meet in Flandreau on Tuesday, April 4th.  Both the boys and the girls Cardinal track teams participated in the event.

Quarrier Track Starts 2017 Season at SDSU

NewDRLogoThe Dell Rapids Quarrier girls and boys track teams opened up their 2017 season at the Scott Underwood Invitational at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings on Monday, April 3rd.  The Quarrier girls team finished with 8.2 points at the meet.  Sioux Falls Christian won the girls title with 51 points.  Sioux City North was second, and Viborg finished third.  The Quarrier boys team placed fourth with a total of 46 points.  Sioux Falls Christian also won the boys title with 122 points.  Sioux City North was second, and Chester Area finished third.

The Quarriers will be at the Tri-Valley Invite on Thursday, April 6th.
