Dean Risse

Dean L. Risse, age 71 of Silver Creek, Wisconsin, passed away early Tuesday afternoon (May 15, 2012) at Froedtert Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee where he had been a patient for the last 4 days from injuries received in a house fire on May 12. He was born on February 15, 1941, in Silver Creek, WI, a son of the late Rollin F. and Sarah “Sailor” LeFever Risse. He attended Silver Creek Grade School and graduated from Random Lake High School in 1959 and also attended Lakeland College. He served in the United States Army from 1959-1962 serving in the Berlin Crisis and served in the National Guard for 10 years. On August 25, 1962, he married Jane Zimmermann at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Plymouth. The couple resided in Silver Creek after their marriage. He was employed as a farm and industrial implement dealer and salesman all his life. He was known for his charity work and his “Risse Barbeque Chicken” throughout the area. He was a former member of the Random Lake Lions Club and received the Melvin Jones Award. He was an honorary member of the Silver Creek Fire Department and served as Assistant Chief for many years. He was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s U.C.C. in Silver Creek were he taught Sunday school and served on consistory of the church and preached many lay sermons. Dean was an avid deer and pheasant hunter and sponsored and coached little league and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include: His loving wife of 49 years, Jane, of Silver Creek Four Children: Todd R. Risse of Rhinelander, WI Timm D. (Lori) Risse of Random Lake Tammie (Jeff) Broin of Dell Rapids, SD Thomas G. Risse of Silver Creek 10 Grandchildren: Jordan & Nicholas Risse of Rhinelander Adam, Ashley, & Zachary Risse of Random Lake Alyssa, Miranda, & Austin Broin of Dell Rapids, SD RaeAnne & Mitchell Risse of Silver Creek Two Step Grandchildren: Ashley & Andrew Stolper of Adell, WI Two former Daughter-In-Laws: Debra Boone & Jami Stolper One Brother: Ronny (DuAnne) Risse of Hingham One Sister: Jane (Ed) Wiebe of Fillmore, WI One Sister-In-Law: Suzanne Unger Zimmermann of Burlington, WA Also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother and father-in-law: Glenn & Luella Zimmermann, two Brother-In-Laws: Timm & Jack Zimmermann.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon (May 19) at 3:30 P.M. at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth. Rev. Ron Risse, his brother, and Rev. David Schlieter, pastor of New Horizon U.C.C. will co-officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul’s U.C.C. Cemetery in Silver Creek. Friends may call at the Suchon Funeral Home from 12:00 noon on Saturday until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Dean’s name for the Silver Creek Fire Department or a charity of your choice. The Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post #5612 will conduct military rites at the gravesite following the services. The Suchon Funeral Home and Cremation Services is serving the family. Dale Babcock

Dale Eugene Babcock, age 65, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2012 at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM Wednesday, May 16 at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls. The family will be present to greet friends for visitation from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Tuesday, May 15, at the funeral home.

Dale was a longtime employee of Franklin Foods.

Grateful for having shared his life are his special friend, Lyvonne Yeigh; daughter, Melissa Ferguson of Hudson, WI; son, Jason (Andi) Babcock of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Patti (Dennis) Bjorklund; step-children, Steve (Jean) Jarman of Silver Spring, MD, Michele (Doug) Weldy of Dell Rapids, SD, Richard (Lynn) Jarman of Tea, SD, Ronald (Desiree) Jarman of Kasson, MN, and Jeff (Michelle) Jarman of Spokane, WA; 15 grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; many dear relatives and friends.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Fay Babcock; sister, Peggy Babcock; grandson, Justin Jarman.

Lowell “Whitey” Kuper

Lowell “Whitey” Kuper, 85, of Dell Rapids passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Dells Nursing and Rehab Center. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon with the family present at 4:00 p.m. and the Christian Wake Service will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11, 2012 at Kahler Funeral Home. Lowell “Whitey” Kuper was born on March 11, 1927 at Marvin, SD, the son of Ben and Mabel Kuper. He grew up and attended school at Marvin and lived there until 1943 when he moved to Sioux Falls, SD. He worked at Gamble Skogmo until 1952 when he worked for Ray Syverson Tile Company. He retired in 1989. Lowell married Bette Bunkers on January 21, 1952 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. They lived most their life in Dell Rapids.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his buddies and was a master gardener. He played the guitar and was in various bands around the area. He taught each of his children how to play the guitar.

Whitey was preceded in death by his brother and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bette of Dell Rapids; his sons, Steve (Lola) of Sioux Falls, Dan (Jane), Jim (Jill), Jeff (Ann), Kevin (Cheryl) all of Dell Rapids, and Rod (Kim) of White, SD; his daughters, Lynne Kuper of Sioux Falls and Tami (Steve) Clark of Dell Rapids; his 14 grandchildren, three step grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Lorene Williams

Lorene E. Williams, 92, of Dell Rapids passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Dells Area Health Center. Her funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 7, 2012 at the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids Chapel. Interment will be in the Dell Rapids Cemetery. Lorene Esther Stordahl, daughter of Melvin and Caroline (Paulson) Stordahl was born on April 3, 1920 on a farm in Blinsmon Township, Moody County, South Dakota. She was baptized on May 2, 1920 at Bethania Lutheran Church by Rev. Sevalestun. Her sponsors were Glads and Peter Paulson and Lewis and Eliza Stordahl. She was confirmed on June 16, 1935 at Bethania Lutheran Church by Rev. Edward Hegland. She attended Pleasant Prairie Rural School for eight years and then Jasper, Minnesota High School for a year before graduating from Trent High School in May of 1939. Following graduation Lorene was a bookkeeper at Hame Light and Decor in Jasper, Minnesota. Lorene married James E. Williams on November 16, 1941 at the Lutheran Parsonage in Jasper, Minnesota by Rev. A. C. Anderson. The couple moved to a farm in Enterprise Township in Dell Rapids. Lorene was a bookkeeper at Prairie Junction Truck Stop until 1978. In September of 1983 the couple moved to Dell Rapids where Lorene was employed by the Dell Rapids Hospital for four years. James passed away in 1987. In October of 2004 Lorene moved to Friendship Village and remained there until the time of her death.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids, the Dell Rapids Hospital Auxiliary, the Trent American Legion Auxiliary, the Lutheran Ladies Aid and Circle and volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Dell Rapids Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her son, James Dennis Williams; her brothers, Palmer Stordahl and Arlen Stordahl and her sisters, Marvel Kallsen, Blanche Sullivan and Doris Julson.

She is survived by her children, Gary (Darlys) Williams of Dell Rapids, Jeanette (Tom) Burkhart of Sioux Falls and Phyllis (Deane) Koller of Parker and Kevin (Darla) Stordahl of Sioux Falls; her grandchildren, Kristi Jo (Scott) Goehring, Justin (Angela) Williams, Jordan (Rebel) Williams Julie (Brian) Van Dam, Matt (Tamara) Burkhart, Jared Koller, Jamie Koller and Tracy Koller; her 12 great grandchildren and her sisters, Ruth Henry of Arlington and Delaine Leuning of CA.
