December 16, 2012 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls basketball team picked up their first win of the season at the Entringer Classic in Flandreau on Saturday, December 15th, against Lake Preston, 53-36.  The game was back and forth in the first half as Dell Rapids St Mary had a 10-8 lead after the first quarter.  The Cardinals extended their lead to 14-9 early in the second quarter, but Lake Preston went on an 8-0 run and had a slim 21-19 lead at halftime.  The game was tied 23-23 halfway through the third quarter when Dell Rapids St Mary went on an 14-0 run to take a lead they would never lose.  The Cardinals led 37-25 after the third quarter.  The Divers closed the gap to 39-29 with 6:00 left in the game, but the Cardinals closed out the game by outscoring Lake Preston 14-7 the rest of the quarter for the 53-36 win.

Kelly Michel paced the Cardinals with 21 points in the game.  She was also named the MVP of the game.  Anna Wolles added seven points, and Amber Hansen and Ally Mullaney each had six points apiece.

The Cardinals improve their record to 1-4 on the year.  The Cardinals will play the Divers again on Tuesday, December 18th, in Lake Preston.
