The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals had their season come to an end in the opening round of the District 7B Tournament on Tuesday, February 21st. The Cardinals lost to the Chester Area Flyers 36-53 at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.
Chester Area opened up the game on a 4-0 run, but St Mary answered with a 5-0 run. The Cardinals led 5-4 at the end of the first quarter. The offenses picked up the pace in the second quarter, and the Flyers went to the locker room at halftime with a slim 19-17 lead. Chester Area was able to extend the lead in the third quarter 36-24. The Flyers then outscored St Mary 11-5 in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to pull ahead 47-29 as they earned the tournament win.
The Cardinals end their season with an overall record of 9-12. Chester Area will advance to the semifinals of the District 7B Tournament on Thursday, February 23rd. The Flyers will travel to Elkton to take on the #1 seed Elkton-Lake Benton Elks.
