The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinal girls basketball team dropped a hard-fought game against a tough Deubrook Area Dolphin team on Thursday, January 4th. The Dolphins beat the Cardinals 56-42 at Dell Rapids St Mary High School.
The Dolphins entered the game with a 5-1 record and got out to a quick start. The Deubrook pressure defense caused a few Cardinal turnovers in the first quarter that led to a 19-8 lead for the Dolphins after the first quarter. St Mary came back in a big way in the second quarter by outscoring Deubrook 16-7 to close the gap to just two points by halftime at 26-24. The Cardinal offense struggled a bit in the third quarter scoring only five points in the quarter. Deubrook was able to push their lead to 14 points at 43-29. That proved to be the difference in the game as both teams scored 13 points in the final quarter.
Cassy Geraets led the team with 13 points in the game. Ella Heinitz added 10 points for the Cardinals.
St Mary (3-4) will look to rebound against the Canistota Hawks on Thursday, January 11th, in Canistota.
