The Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals had their 2016-2017 season come to an end in the opening round of the District 7B tournament on Monday, February 27th, in Elkton. The Cardinals fell to the Elkton-Lake Benton Elks 46-36.
The Cardinals was able to get a first quarter lead and led 9-8 at the first break. The Elks grabbed the lead heading into halftime at 20-19. Elkton-Lake Benton started to pull away in the third quarter as they outscored the Cardinals 15-7 for a 35-26 lead heading into the final quarter. The Elks then also outscored St Mary 11-10 in the final quarter for the win.
Luke Brown led the Cardinals with nine points. Zach Geraets added seven points. Weston Geraets had six points, Connor Libis finished with five points, and Max Herber tossed in four points.
St Mary ends its season with a record of 8-13.
