Gayville-Volin’s Grant Rice hit two three-pointers in the final minute to force overtime, then the Raiders outscored Dell Rapids St. Mary 7-2 in the extra period to claim a 51-46 victory over the Cardinals in the Tri-Valley Conference boys’ basketball Classic on Saturday, January 17th, at Laddie E. Cimpl Arena in Yankton.
Rice and Luke Hummel each had 14 points for Gayville-Volin. Brandon VanOsdel finished with 12 points and nine rebounds in the victory.
Mitch Brown scored 14 points, hitting four three-pointers, to lead St. Mary. Matt Farmer and Noah Fiegen each had 10 points. Christian Schnieders had 12 rebounds for the Cardinals.
The Cardinals fall to 0-10 on the year. St. Mary plays Elkton-Lake Benton in the opening round of the Dakota Valley Conference Tournament on Tuesday, January 20th, in Estelline.
