The Estelline Redmen survived a comeback bid by the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals in the fourth quarter to hang on to beat the Cardinals 54-47 in the 7th/8th place game at the Dakota Valley Conference tournament at Deubrook Area High School in White, SD.
Estelline held a one-point lead at halftime at 26-25. The Cardinals were then held to just four points in the third quarter while Estelline scored 21 points to lead 47-29 at the end of the third quarter. St Mary outscored Estelline 18-7 in the fourth quarter, but it wasn’t enough to complete the come back.
St Mary finished the game shooting 40% (21-43) from the field, 27% (4-15) from three-point area, and 67% (4-6) from the free-throw line. The Cardinals had 38 team rebounds, 10 assists, and five steals.
Noah Fiegen finished the game with a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds along with four assists. Austin Welbig and Zach Geraets both had eight points. Geraets also pulled down six rebounds. Connor Libis added seven points, and Luke Brown finished with six points.
St Mary (1-12) will travel to Arlington to face the Cardinals on Thursday, January 28th. The game can be seen on Big Sioux Media.
