Fourth Quarter Cold Streak Dooms Beresford Boys

The Beresford Watchdog boys scored just one point in seven minutes of the fourth quarter which helped the Platte-Geddes Black Panthers to a 55-50 win at the Irene-Wakonda Classic on Saturday, February 1st.

The Black Panthers opened the game with a 9-3 run and held a 19-8 lead late in the opening quarter.  The Watchdogs scored the final points of the first quarter to make the score 19-11.  Beresford battled to within three points, 20-23, late in the second quarter.  The Black Panthers, however, ended the half on a 6-0 run to make the score 29-20 at halftime.

The Watchdogs got into an offensive groove in the third quarter.  They chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the game 36-36 with 1:15 left in the quarter.  Their rally continued as they finished the quarter with a 41-39 lead.  The break between the third and fourth quarter shut down any momentum Beresford had built.  The Watchdogs were held to just one point for over seven minutes, and Platte-Geddes built a 51-42 lead with :50 to go int he game.  Beresford tried to make a comeback but ran out of time.

Malachi James had 18 points, five rebounds, three steals, and two assists.  Tiegen Nyhaug had 14 points and four rebounds.  Aidan Hamm ended with nine points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Ashton Oberle had five points and three rebounds.  Cooper Nelson added four points and nine rebounds.
