Beresford Boys Season Ends in Region 4A Opener

The Beresford Watchdog boys had their season come to an end in the opening round of the Region 4A tournament against Dakota Valley on Thursday, March 6th.  The Panthers went on a run in the middle quarters and the held off a Watchdog rally in the fourth for an 84-77 win.

Beresford took a 12-8 lead in the first four minutes of the game.  Dakota Valley finished the quarter on a 14-8 advantage for a 22-20 lead at the break.  The Panthers pushed the lead to 34-23 with 5:15 to go in the second quarter and finished the half with a 46-30 advantage.

Dakota Valley’s lead reached 20 points, 60-40, with 4:00 to play in the third quarter.  They continued their run and extended the lead to 70-47 going into the final quarter.  The Panthers went cold through the first half of the fourth quarter.  The cold shooting combined with great defense helped Beresford go on a 12-0 run to cut the lead to 70-59 with 4:30 to go in the game.  Dakota Valley, however, was able to make enough shots and free throws to old off the Watchdog rally for the win.

Malachi James finished with 30 points and four steals.  Aidan Hamm added 21 points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Tiegen Nyhaug had 10 points and five rebounds.  Cooper Nelson ended with nine points and nine rebounds.

The Watchdogs finished their 2024-2025 season with a 12-9 overall record.
