Beresford Girls Suffer Opening Round Loss in BEC Tourney

The Beresford Watchdog (6-6) girls lost their opening round game of the Big East Conference Tournament on Thursday, January 26th.  The Watchdogs fell to the Garretson Blue Dragons 46-43 at Flandreau High School.

Beresford had a lead for most of the game after trailing in the first quarter.  Garretson built a 12-6 lead by the first quarter break.  The Watchdogs put together a great second quarter and went to the locker room at halftime leading 25-20.  Beresford continued their run into the third quarter and extended the lead to 36-22 with 2:45 to play in the third quarter.  That’s when the Blue Dragons when on a run.

Garretson put together a 7-2 run to end the third quarter to cut the deficit to 38-29 going into the final quarter.  The Watchdogs were able to keep the lead through the first five minutes of the fourth.  Beresford led 43-39 with 3:00 to play, but that was the last score the Watchdogs would get.  Garretson ended the game on a 7-0 run for the opening round win.

Two players finished in double figures for the Watchdogs. Ella Merriman and Harley Koth both had 10 points each. Autumn Namminga finished with nine points.
